Title: Star trek and Sci fi
Post by: The-Crow on September 14, 2008, 02:14:58 AM
Ok,

Every 6 months a Sci-fi 3 day bash comes to Milton Keynes City Centre

Its entirely free to walk around and meet out of work actors who are typcast and can't work any more (poor sods)

They can only earn a crust signing autographs and getting photographed by fans

These are called Collectermania events.

how long do I have to click on the 'CLICK HERE' bit until it does something?

do they not dress up? I'd be well pissed if I went to meet them and they showed up in civvies. especially worf and data, it'd be like, great, 2 people who don't look anything like the characters

Have to admit to being a complete Star Trek geek.  Never been to one of these though...hmmm, not sure I could bring myself to.  It's like my little secret habit lol.  Having said that one of my regular casinos is at the Ricoh Arena..must resist.

Gatso go to the collectormania web site to click

This is held in the shopping centre, no need to dress like a Klingon, but some fans do

The stars are under strict contract not to wear any costumes relating to any films or TV they have appeared in.

they do look a bit boring yes, but they are v chatty.

I don't buy a signature for £15, when there no queues  just wander up and say Hi

There's a  Star trek film on Youtube  that was made as a mini series shown on US tv about a year ago.

Its called "Star Trek of Gods and Men" and features about 10 star trek actors, from the original series, voyager crew and a captain from the film

"Generations".Its shown in ten episodes on Youtube, but was shown on TV in 3 episodes

Even though it looks cheap they have an original bridge from the Captain Kirk days

Some of its in HD, and starts back at" the city on the edge of forever" and that time portal that can send you back through time

Definately worth a look for Star trek Fans

I can just about understand someone being addicted to Star Trek or whatever..

But why on earth would anyone want to PAY for an autograph of an actor who appeared in it?

No different to collecting an autograph of a footballer, although I do find it odd when they get autographs of actors that play characters that you can't see their face such as stormtroopers.
PS I was tempted by http://www.collectormania.com in June but I will be away at the time.

This Friday there were only a few trekie stars at MK , most arrive tomorrow.

I had a long chat with Klingon Leader Gowron.Tim Russ, and a Herta from DS 9.

Later Captain Janeway arrived

The main stars were the families who turned up in full Trekie costumes, lol

On Friday I met up with the Klingon Leader Gowron actor Robert O'Reilly. As I was chatting to him a group of 3 klingons came and kidnapped him and took me as a hostage. We were forced into a Blood wine drinking contest and after a few hours they let us go.

Its a bit of a blurr what happened later ,but I remember Sunday morning  and a bad head

Patrick Stewart to be knighted

At last,  afters years and years of saving the planet, Patrick is to be knighted today

He was in the 2009 new years honours list as well as Peter Jackson,

But I think he cannot call himself Sir until the Queen does the dubbing today

He was given the OBE in 2001

He will be 70 on 13 July this year, but he did look frail at the Collectormania last weekend

Disguised in a green anorak and a baseball hat he was helped around the centre .

Hope is pleased with the Knighthood
