Post by: vegaslover on September 19, 2008, 07:12:42 PM They are not direct flights, some of em will work out more expensive over a week with the need to use transport to get to heart of strip, never mind the time wasted on travel

Post by: Royal Flush on September 19, 2008, 08:02:51 PM AFAIK Virgin are the only London-Vegas direct carrier.
Those flights listed all connect, hence the 16hr flight times. Title: Re: Dirt cheap stays in Las Vegas! Title: Re: Dirt cheap stays in Las Vegas! Post by: Simon Galloway on September 20, 2008, 09:49:31 AM I've booked a few dozen of these... here's my tuppenneth as Cliff Notes:
1. Direct if you can. You might not give a toss, but if you are going for a week, spending a day each way of that lying under a bench at Chicago airport on a missed connection eats massively into your holiday time. 2. Expedia etc are all very well, if you see a price you like, take it. However, charging per person per room is bad news. If you want to do it dirt cheap as per title, I would suggest: Book with the hotel direct. Fatwallet.com usually have all the current offers that hotels are offering, or you can trawl through the hotel's own website for their specials. Particularly if you are looking for dirt cheap in the winter, you can get a reasonable room for $50 a night. That's total for the room, you can put 4 of you in the room if you want to, so like $12.50 pppn (7 quid each!) 3. Staying miles away from where you expect to play can be a false economy. The Deuce bus is a waste of time. Car hire can be done cheaply in advance, taxis are quick and easy but add up. Best bet is to stay at the hotel you intend to play at if you can get a decent room rate, or poker rate, and have zero travel costs. With 2 or 3 of you in the room, you can make the hours up on the poker rate between you, so no great obligation. 4. Still on dirt cheap mode, many of the cardrooms will give you a buffet comp if you ask the right person in the right way at the right time. One serious trough in there can last you all day. Before buying expensive drinks out in the evening, get 3/4 rinsed on free stuff in the casino first. Obviously the more money you take, the more fun you can have, but you really can keep the X's incredibly small if you want/need to. Title: Re: Dirt cheap stays in Las Vegas! I've only been 3 times myself, but I totally agree with all the above. The only thing I can add is with regard to the flights... you can usually save a few more pounds by signing up to Virgin's Flying Club, then buying 2000 airmiles / person (£15/1000 plus £15) and booking the 'Miles plus Money' rate. However, charging per person per room is bad news. Expedia are a pretty good place to start - they usually give a good overview of options and importantly they almost always include all charges (some sites don't). The person/room is irrelevant its just the way expedia presents the cost and nothing today with the odd UK habit of charging per person. Title: Re: Dirt cheap stays in Las Vegas! Joining Flying Club is good sense though ~ if anyone wants to join and earn an extra bonus, I have a referral code if you PM me. |
