Which is the best?

i tried a calculator and stuck hard to the advice only to lose more than before i used it. ill get the name for you but it was a bit of a pain to be frank. hope you find a good one

poker tracker is the daddy.

I've only ever used Poker Tracker.

I do sometimes sense a bit of instability, and the interface is rubbish, but overall it's definitely worth the aquisition. Sooooo many stats.

Do you think it has improved your game?

Difficult to judge.

I think so. I often go back over hands only to realise that I played them incorrectly.

Also, gives me something to meander through when I'm bored.

shows mucked cards and on table stats with the plugin which is awesome

Ive looked at Poker Tracker a few times......as soon as it covers Tribecca sites I will (think about) getting it.....looks good from the blurb tho.

I was thinking about getting something, more to monitor the people I play against and for keeping records.  Im not good at making my own notes!

I use poker office simply because it is one of the few that is compatible with Prima. It works pretty well. It did get a little slow as the database got full but now I have converted it to a MySQL database it's fine.

This is an issue with the Tribeca sites not giving hand histories, rather than a problem with Poker Tracker.

To the OP...

Poker Tracker is the best software around for tracking both you and your opponents play.  In addition, there are further programs which have been developed to use PT's info and overlay stats on the table screens themselves.  The best by a mile are PokerAce HUD and GameTime+, both of which are well worthwhile.  GameTime+ is easier to configure on screen but PokerAce has more features, such as displaying cards mucked at showdown.

If your question referred to odds calculators, rather than tracking software, then I'd use PokerStove or, for simple queries (i.e. working out just how bad that bad beat was), www.twodimes.net.

Oh yes indeed, it's main benifits include

Simple things like being able to graphically re-run a hand you have played which makes it much easier to think about than if you are just reading a hand history from a page. Pot odds are available at the touch of a button.

Compile statistics on your opponents that you can superimpose onto the screen you are playing at the moment using companion programmes such as gametime+

See how you do in various positions with various hands. If you are losing money in the small blind for example this will show you in black and white.

I think the tool is most useful for the limit poker player, however big bet and tournament players can also get loads of mileage from it.
It was invaluable for me helping me move from playing a 50c/$1 limit to 8-tabling $15/$30. Focusing on tournaments now and must confess don't use it as much.
