Title: 27% juice
Post by: pieman on September 22, 2008, 02:48:07 PM
I played a tourney last night at Riley's and noticed 1/2 hour in that the prize pool stated £120 15 players £11 each that's 27%

when i question it i was told that 3 weeks ago Riley's head office changed it to this format, normal this tourney is sold out and it only had 15 this week i can now see why.

Now i ended up wining it but i will never go again, its a real shame as it was the only game in town and if i fancy ed a low stakes game for a bit of fun it was great.

has anyone else come across this

i guess they dont want to play poker anymore, mad reallly i only went their to play poker and i did spend money on drinks etc
no credit crunch at Rileys then

Ouch 27% juice, totally unbeatable game unless the other 14 players are complete idiots.

£45 for putting on a poker tourney doesn't sound like exploitation to me.

Riley's 'facility fee' increased recently from £1 to £3. With buy-in at a maximum of £10 that's 23%.

For that you get the use of the tables and, if you're lucky, somebody acting as TD shifting players when needed and, again if you're lucky. a dealer on the final table.

With 25 runners (the maximum) it means a £13 investment to win £125/£75/£50.

My experience suggests that the clubs which provide the service are holding on to their players, whilst at the clubs which don't the numbers have fallen. With 15 runners the prizes drop to £75/£45/£30.

You do get use of the cards and chips etc after the tourney to play fee/rake-free as long as you want though......

Vegas tournaments are regularly 20%+ until you get to the higher buy-ins in the decent casinos.  Perhaps British venues are finally realising why they keep losing money running poker games!
