Title: Is live multitabling illegal?
Post by: StuartHopkin on September 22, 2008, 04:58:20 PM
Had a little set to with one of the Luton staff about this? Nothing too serious but im confused!

When DTD first said it was illegal to multitable live i asked one of my good friends who is incredibly high up at Gala/Coral whether it was true. He told me it definately wasnt.

Now this weekend Im told the same thing again. Obviously ill be getting my friend to check and send it me in writing, he might even be mistaken but he seemed pretty sure.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I've seen someone at DTD playing two MTT's at the same time

I doubt it's 'illegal' but I can see why a cardroom wouldn't allow it.

It only takes one table of drinks sent flying by someone rushing between tables for multitabling to suddenly become very unpopular with everyone else.

I don't think it is illegal, just inadvisable.  One of the (eccentric) regulars at my local Gala often used to buy in to sit and gos whilst still in the mian tourney/another sit and go.  I myself have bought into a live sit and go whilst still finishing off another one, running over to play my blinds.  Eventually they stopped people doing it because it was too disruptive to the other players, and probably rightly so.  I'd imagine that's why DTD won't let you, but not sure that it is "illegal", although I could be wrong.

no idea on the legality but it is banned under grosvenor rules while I've seen it allowed at DTD

I played a NLHE sng and a Tightend SNG at the same time in Luton this weekend.

Now the obv brag post part, 2nd in the NLHE and 1st in the Tighty game. The only problem with that was 1st in Tighty's game got paid 3rd place money, FML!

I'm pretty sure that in 2006 Edgar (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=533) Skjervold (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=533) played on the final table of the EPT in Copenhagen while still having more than a passing interest in whatever the side event was at the time.

both were private tournies. you wouldn't have been allowed in 2 house run games under grosvenor rules.

gotta love tighty's payout rules that meant your better half cashed for more than you in her 1st ever game of poker

Its certainly not illegal, it might not be permitted in certain places. Loads of people have two tournaments running in the WSOP, last year at the WSOPE i seem to recall the HORSE final table all running to and from the PLO event too. They do it all the time in Ireland too.

Thanks for all your replies. I hate arguing if im not 100% sure!

Dunk and mondatoo will vouch for the fact the guy was insisting it was illegal!

Personally I think live multitabling is the way forward!

most live venues only have 1 set of chips so generlly used on both games therefore dont want people on  a final table when say a 1000 point chip makes no difference finding it onto the other comp where a 1000 point chip makes alot of difference.

Also opens it up to loads of arguments as to when you where sat down, if your hand is live/dead. if you want to multi stay at home.

no more than going to the toilet does and I'm pretty sure most venues allow that

I've seen a 'Disconnect' in a live game. If my hand had been weaker I probably would have called the clock rather than coughing loudly to wake him back up.
So many tells in snoring, if you know what to look for.

The Gaming Commission informed DTD that they were not the happiest at people playing 2 competitions then came back a few days later that it wasn't in the interests of the player that is entered into 2 competitions as they cannot fully concentrate on either competition.

So whilst it may not be illegal it is frowned upon by the Gaming Commission and they don't want to hear or see it happen as it puts the player at a disadvantage.

a part of the update from the wsope..... it seems it's ok to do it at the empire...........

Farnood a Multi-Table Winner
A smiling Sherkhan Farnood, currently multi-tabling this tournament and the H.O.R.S.E. final, has tripled up to around 37,000 courtesy of Erik Seidel and Andreas Krause, cracking Seidel's aces and putting an unhappy expression on Krause's face.

"Report on that!" Farnood cried, clearly having the time of his life.

Seidel:
Krause: not enough to beat Farnood
