Anyone else read Carragher's book?

My favourite football books to date were Fergie's, Roy Keane's and for different reasons Steven Gerrard's, (Vieira's and Coulgh's weren't bad) but I think this tops them all. This guy is not only embarrasingly honest in places, even about the current set up and manager, but he really knows his football ridiculously well (he openly challenges anyone's knowledge on football to his own in the book) and I can see him being a very good manager one day.

I wish more footballers books were like this instead of the dross I'd gotten used to reading. I'd recommend it to any football fan, Liverpool or not.

I bet it's a great book. I'd buy it if the money wasn't going to him. Maybe i can convince my housemate who's a liverpool fan to buy it.
I don't really dislike him and i rate him but i don't agree with putting club before country but i can see why he's a Liverpool legend.

He didn't.  For years he travelled all over with the England squad, not playing, or playing for 10 minutes out of position. 

He put his family and his career above being part of the England squad - he wasn't playing for England.  It wasn't a 'club v country' debate at all.

Oh, I haven't read the book yet - but I will be buying it.

As for a future manager, I think both he and Danny Murphy are very intelligent footballers - and both will make good managers, possibly future Liverpool managers?  Who knows.

I read an extract of this in one of the tabloids and decided there and then that I had to get it. What I read was absolutely brilliant (the bit about Lucas Neill).

I dont know too much about Murphy the man outside of football, but Carragher's knowledge of football stats as well as foreign leagues and their players is quite scary. I like to think I know quite a bit about 3 or 4 foreign leagues but I wouldn't go near Carra in a football quiz or try to compare to his knowledge of players.

He goes into this in depth. Including his thoughts about him vs Terry as similar types of defender and what his back four for England would be which, yet again, is very honest and surprising.

Do you honestly think he wrote the book ??

Yes. He goes into that too and his choice of ghost writer and the reasons for his choice.

The fact he prefers his club to country has little to do with his reasons for retirement. They're seperate issues.

LMAO, so you say you honestly think he wrote the book, and then say that he got someone else to write it for him.

Good player, not great.  Not exactly the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer however.

He is not a writer so he didn't do paragraph after paragraph of writing (I would have thought that was obvious to be honest), but I do honestly believe all of the content is his, if perhaps not all of the spelling, punctuation and grammar - which is what I thought you meant. No one in their right mind would think he physically wrote it. But I'm guessing you knew that before asking.

And to Liverpool fans he is a great player and I think this book shows him to be alot sharper than a lot of footballers and fans. People will always prejudge though.

Fair enough but anyone really into their club will rarely put country first. That applies to fans too. There was a thread on here about club vs country a year or so back and the majority picked club first. I dont know why when a player admits what most fans would agree with he gets hammered for it.

I agree they would. It's just a personal choice. Given the choice between one World Cup win for England and Sheffield Wednesday winning the Champions League every year of my remaining life i'd take the World Cup win. So although i respect carragher i'm not personally a fan of him and his choices.
