Here's a hand that occured at the Virgin Festival last weekend.. I have changed the river and would ask.. was the hand live or dead !

Hand is dealt and one player puts in a big raise 4 times BB and is smooth called by the SB(player2).. The flop comes down  9h  Kh  4h player one bets pot player 2 puts player one all-in and player one insta calls with a smaller stack and turns over  9s 9c player two turns over  Ahrt   Qh  Player one says "nice hand" and throws his cards deliberatly face down into the muck.. the dealer recovers them and turns them back over and deals the last two cards a  2s and a  4c giving player one a full house...

Heres the question.. was player ones hand live or was it dead..

I'd suggest it should be dead.

Don't understand why you'd do that when you're drawing at a good 20-25%!

Would the cards not speak as they've already been shown down?

hand should be live. once there's a called all in and the cards are turned face up we have to proceed to showdown in a tournament.

the only time a hand should be dead is if the cards are thrown face down in such a way that we cannot identify them, the dealer has acted correctly in recovering them.

even if player 2 had thrown his cards face down but in a way that meant we could identify them then the dealer should still get them and turn them face up as they are still live even though the player meant to muck

Once they are tabled they are live and can't be killed.
