Title: MANTIS STRIKES 1000 POSTS
Post by: MANTIS01 on October 05, 2008, 02:14:22 PM
I registered as a member of Blonde on March 14th 2007, and this is my 1000th post. It has taken some time to reach this milestone having made a paltry 1.753 posts per day. A trivial amount by Boldie's standards I think. But I'm sure we will all agree that quality is much better than quantity. I'm also sure some would argue that the length of my posts has something to do with my slow progress. :)

I like the idea of the 1000th post and wanted to maintain that tradition by posting about what Blonde means to me. I will endeavour to keep this as short as possible, but refuse to promise anything.

Blonde plays a small, but ultimately enjoyable part in my life. I think the fact that we all have a place where we can come and share our passion for poker and get connected is quite excellent really. This forum gives us a lot. Everything from friendship, education, news and tournament reports are available to us here, and we are asked for nothing. The fact Blonde is free to use is pretty surprising really. Only the fact that some people find stuff to complain about is more surprising I think. There are a lot of good people who give their time to this forum for the benefit of fellow members and I for one appreciate that.

I came to Blonde to talk poker on the PHA Board, and I have found that area of the forum to be very useful. I will mention this in a minute. However, I have had a lot of fun elsewhere and often LOL hard at the things I read. I remember one time when I was in a very important meeting with my Managing Director and during a rather pointed and dramatic silence I burst out laughing thinking about a post I read on Blonde like a week earlier.

How to tell your Mrs you've just bought Sky Sports.....

just bowl up to her and say:"listen love, we got sky sports so i'm gonna be watching some serious football and i dont want to hear no shit about it either, let me tell you how this things gonna work, kick off: you bring me a beer, half time:beer me, the other team score: you better be bringing me a beer, if my team loses and you havnt already got naked you might as well pack your bags and leave, ive been explaining this for 2 minutes now and i'm starving so get going on the dinner"

she'll kick up a fuss about it if you let her, women just prefer to be told what to do!

Yep. I think that's the funniest post I've ever read.

If you are looking for friendship and community I think Blonde is perfect for you. You only need to take a look at the success of the annual Blonde Bash and the recent dignified reaction towards Brendan's passing for evidence of the healthy community spirit here. Personally though, I have only knowingly met a couple of Blondes, and so for me the forum is like reading the book but not watching the film. I think I like that though.

Onto PHA which is my own particular area of interest. If you want to improve the way you play poker you would be a fool not to take advantage of what is a fantastic facility. There is no doubt using PHA has made me a more cultured player since I came here, and again I appreciate the effort fellow members make to contribute. The attitude on the board these days is pretty healthy I think, but people still seem wary of the difference of opinion and the tone, and it prevents them using it. Firstly, I would say the difference is important. In fact robust difference is vital to get the sort of education you're looking for. Secondly, I think the tone is less important than the message. We all get very easily offended these days and maybe we shouldn't. I know Blonde push the happy poker image, but I don't go for happy poker so much. I prefer poker when it bristles with atmosphere. So when the board bristles it's not so bad....because we are all still learning stuff.

That's true of course, but real friendship transcends social etiquette and other such trifles. We are each free to confront or forgive the other their transgressions without fear of consequence.

This gem from Tom's excellent diary can be applied to PHA imo. Poker talk should be able to transcend social etiquette as well. So don't be put off using the board if you want to play better poker. There are a lot of talented people on there who know what they're talking about. I do lose them sometimes when I go deeper through the meta levels like, but generally their opinions are valuable. So much better than live poker talk which always descends into stories containing the phrase "and the flop came" just before I pass out.

imo my 1000th post is short.

GL to every Blonde.

Let's win it all.

Congratulations Mantis on your milestone. I must admit in my short time with Blondepoker I always read your posts with particular interest. They are usually both instructive and witty.

excellent choice of precision and precise wording and although some of your posts make no sense at all im sure the witt and comedy from them encourages all in making future appearances to the blonde network.
