Title: Weekend Football Bets
Post by: vampitup on November 18, 2005, 12:26:30 AM
Maybe we could all share some tips for the weekend's footie?

Just got back from a road trip playing fruits and didn't have PC access for 3 days, but I got my mate to put 300 on Yeovil for me on Tuesday night @ 8/15 on Paddy Power which he did for himself as well which returned a nice 160 profit each.  The first bet from my new football bankroll!

My tips for the weekend (Professional football only, will look at non-league tomorrow!):

Accrington v Forest Green @ 1/2 (General) although it seems they are being narrowed slightly.  They are a very good bet even at this short price.  In top form having won at Grays last week and are currently 3rd.  They have won 6/8 home games scoring average 2 goals per home game.

Forest Green only avoided relegation on a technicality last season due to another team's poor stadia.  They are doing just as bad this season, with 6 points from 8 away games (50% defeat ratio), and are only off the bottom on goal difference.

Arsenal at Wigan @ 5/6 (1.89 on Betfair though).  This is simply an amazing price.  If this was in the cup last season Arsenal would have been 2/5 if not shorter.  Expect Wigan's bubble to burst from this game on - they have not played any of the top 5 except Chelsea.

Sheffield United v Millwall @ 2/5.  Again a short priced tip but look at the match ups.  It's top v bottom and Sheffield United have an exceptional home record (8 wins and 1 draw from 9 games, conceding only 4 goals in the process).  The only slight worry is that Millwall have picked up most of their points away from home but they are already 4 points adrift at the bottom.

Leyton Orient v Stockport @ 8/13 (1.71 on Betfair) Top v 3rd bottom.  A good price for this match up.  Orient are in excellent form including a good cup win on Wednesday night.  Gary Alexander is one of the outstanding strikers in the division.  Their record at Brisbane Road could do with some improvement considering their lofty league position but Stockport's form on their travels is woeful.  6 points from 9 games conceding 22 goals says more than enough.

Hamilton v Queen Of The South @ 4/7.  Hamilton are on the fringes of the Promotion race and have had very solid form losing only twice all season.  Queen of The South are being kept of the bottom only by Brechin who are terrible.  3 points and 3 goals from 7 away games says it all.

Let's see how they get on...  Any more tips?

Reading to beat Hull too. Slightly better odds than the Blades game (Very slightly) but Reading are in good form too and I cant see them slipping.

Im definalty on the Arsenal game (come on lads) and Man U are a great price to beat Charlton (1.9 on betfair) perhaps cos Man U arent in great form atm but still a fair bet, when Man U play well, they do play well.

4 weeks ago this happened:  Millwall 0 - 4  Sheffield United, so I think that Sheff Utd are a guaranteed win.

Although Arsenal haven't yet won away this season I still think that they will beat Wigan by 2 goals

Charlton haven't beaten Man Utd in 15+ games so I think a Man U win there and Chelsea will definitely beat Newcastle

This was actually the other game on my shortlist - but I decided against it because I feel that Sheffield United and Reading are of similar quality, whilst I feel Hull are a much better side than Millwall.

Accrington game is tonight, I will be having 200 on it.

Watch out Queens have just appointed a new manager (got a draw with Stranraer (derby game) his 1st game in charge. They were a better team than their form this year suggests & someone's going to kop it from them.

Cheers Rod, do you know if he has signed any new players yet?  Stranraer are hardly flying though!

No new players - but I'm always wary of a team with a new manager in his first couple of games.

Mccall is a very very good 1st div manager also.

get all your dosh on the hoops

Post by: patman on November 18, 2005, 11:07:14 AM
Johnlarsson,
hoopster myself but dont think there is value in that bet for a couple of reasons

1. the value bet was the cup game where you could have had even money.
2. This game can be a draw and will be priced accordingly - also if you are not a hoops fan the margin for error is huge in this bet. Rangers have nothing to lose at all in this game as either way the manager goes eventually. Rangers will be set out to take a point.

better value out there ;)

Post by: henrik777 on November 18, 2005, 11:36:38 AM
Well 5/6 is pretty good to me.

I thought Rangers would be up for the cup game considering the pressure that was on them.  They were truly awful.

How it'll be different this time i'll never know.

Sandy

Hi sandy,

I know what you mean but for a bet for punters on here and not as a hoopster then caution is advised.

Rangers may not be playing well, may not be up to much as a team but they really are in the last chance saloon. They have nothing to lose at all and i expect a brusing encounter. A point is a victory and i expect them to go out for it. I am not saying that celtic wont beat them i just think that for a neutral its not a great bet.

Either way i`ll be there 12.30 kick of...how uncivilised

Totally agree - I don't fancy this game at all.  Apart from the defeat against Swansea last week, Southend have been flying.  Eastwood and Goater are on fire up front.  Nathan Tyson will improve Forest but will take time to settle in.  Just like Peterborough on wednesday which my mate tipped up, them and Forest are on my 'AVOID' list!

Ok guys...

On the advice given in this post I've just had the following bet...

Accrington (1/2)
Arsenal (8/11)
Man Utd (4/6)
Chelsea (1/3)
Sheff Utd (3/10)
Leyton Orient (1/2)
Hamilton (4/9)

Any 5 from 7 @ £5 (21 bets)
Any 6 from 7 @ £5 (7 bets)
7 from 7 @ £10

Total bet = £150

Here's hoping!!!

Wish I didn't lose so much money on poker - mighta been able to afford a ticket to the game otherwise.... :-)

I wouldnt bet on Chelsea atm. I know they will probably win but the last few games have been poor, plus Roman A has said that he wants to cut the wage bill - could be a bit of unrest there -  I dont know.  Saying that Im not laying them, just staying clear

Think that should be a healthy profit as long as 6 come in, which they should.  I don't personally like these bets though, more room for error/bad luck!

I only bet small amounts on footy too!

Everton to beat West Brom - good value at 2.9.  Everton on good form atm and West Brom....well not.

Also Betfair doing accumalators now - Arsenal and Man U to win is at 3.45 - Great value imo

good luck for the day :)

Are Everton at home?  Surely not at that price!  It's good value but will be a tight game - Kevin Campbell may be out to impress for West Brom as well.

The Arsenal/Man U double is v good value yes, how many times have they been a 5/2 double in recent seasons??!!!

not many at all - both teams nearly evens is excellent value, especially with neither being on that bad form.

Everton are away but for 2.9 its worth a bet imo.  I cant see West Brom winning and Everton are on the up.

Better with the spurs game for that bet.

" Five of Tottenham's last 11 games have featured no more than a single goal while an amazing 12 out of 13 have seen two or less. That means Hills' 4/6 about less than 2.5 goals looks hugely appealing while those looking for a bigger payout can take Sporting Odds' 2/1 about 0-1 goals."

I've got a season ticket at Spurs and I think there could be goals tomorrow - last time we played West Ham at home we won 3-2.  I think 2-1 Spurs is certainly very possible, usually goals with Spurs in London Derbies.  Jol has got us playing good football, and he is certainly not a negative manager.

I thought Rangers would be up for the cup game considering the pressure that was on them.  They were truly awful.

How it'll be different this time i'll never know.

3-0 even though it wasn't as good a performance as the cup game and rangers actually had a couple of chances.

Still a massive gulf in class though. If only the season had started 2 weeks later than it did.
