Title: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Laptops Vs Advent
Post by: ShatnerPants on October 15, 2008, 10:16:45 PM
What's the build quality of these things like ?

Anyone had any problems with internet connectivity or the like ?

Basically I'm looking at laptops, and found a nice Sony at just about £400, a gorgeous HP for under £400, and then the Amilo Li 2735 at £350 and the Amilo Li 2727 at £330.

With a spec like

Brand                             FUJITSU SIEMENS
Screen size                     15 inches
Screen type                    Widescreen
Processor                        Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor model number   T5750
Processor speed               2.0 GHz
Processor bus                  667 MHz
Processor cache               2 MB
Memory (RAM)                 3072 MB
Storage (hard drive)         160 GB
Storage (hard drive) Type  SATA
Operating system              Windows Vista Home Premium
Application software           Microsoftworks
Shared graphics                 Intel GMA X3100 256 MB
Dedicated graphics             No
Optical drive                      Plays & records CDs and DVDs
Lightscribe technology        No
S-Video output                  Yes
VGA output                      Yes
HDMI output                     No
Built-in wireless networking  Yes - 802.11b/g
Wired networking               Yes
Gigabit LAN                        No
Built-in fingerprint reader      No
USB 2.0 slots                      4
Firewire                              No
Media card slots                   No
Built-in bluetooth                 No
Built-in webcam                   No
Built-in TV Tuner                 No
Speakers                            Standard
Battery life                         Up to 2 hours
Laptop weight (kg)             2.7 kg
Premier Collection                No

Where's the con ?

Apparantly you have to switch on the wireless manually every time you fire it up.  But is that a problem when you're saving £50

Any advice ( or better options ) would go down a treat.

i've got an amilo pi 2512 and had no problems at all with it.  Don't know about the wireless thing - mine's got a standard manual switch which just gets left on.....

I had an amilo.

From the day i got it the battery would never last more than 40mins.

The sound from the speakers wasn't loud enough.

After 2 years the pin where you connect the power lead to fell off then wen i got that fixed there was a loose connection between the base and monitor bit.

Now after 3 years if you move or slightly tilt it then it powers off.

I wouldn't recommend getting one
