Just had the most scary moment of my life ever, sleeping and hear my bedroom door ping back, im not really sure whats going on so get up, turn the light on and load the shotty. as im doing this i hear the front door slam and 4 18-21yo's running up the road. i shout a bit and ring police. whilst on phone i go back to bedroom windon to have a cigarette and see a bigger group of 10 or so walking back down the road, the lead on spots me and they run off again. ffs. police catch group but i cant id which ones were actually in there and doesnt appear to be much stolen.

i think i prolly would tbh, id try and slide them into the edge of the pattern and just wing one in the leg. bricking it pretty hard when the door pinged, even for a monster of a man such as myself :)

they got them, was group of 16 year olds. no sigh of forced entry but officer says all yale locks are pretty much pointless as u can buy skeletons on the internet now. they were at a charity fundraiser for a local football club and nothing else can really be done as nothing missing/ no evidence. so basically they get a bollocking from parents and police in clubhouse but nothing else to come of it.

FFS, a joke. Read a story earlier about a kid who'd moved to Middlesbrough(!), got attacked by a gang who carved their initials on his chest. Nothing is too heavy a punishment for these idiots imo.

sure you can get in trouble for a gun. A decorative sword on the wall or a big hammer where you have been doing some repairs could easily be grabbed in self defence though I believe ;)

probably lucky you got knocked out early enough to get home though or you may have bubbled and gone home to find everything you own gone.

Hope you're looking at getting some proper locks on your doors now?  You can fart and open a door that only has a yale lock on it - it's only as strong as the screws holding it to the door.  You need a decent mortice lock.  In fact your household insurance can be invalid if you don't have a mortice lock on the door (worth checking your policy).  Might also be worth getting an alarm as well?  Just for peace of mind when you're in the house.  You might not hear someone getting in through a door/window, but you'd hear if your alarm went off - and it would probably scare them off as well.

Glad you're OK though.  Stuff can be replaced, you can't.

It reminded me of an incident back at home in Ireland. I was asleep in bed and my father came into the room at about 3am

"Where's your gun” says he (I had a shotgun in the wardrobe)

“What’s up Da” says I

“Some bastard’s in the shop” says he (we had a small supermarket)

Now my father was 6’ 3” and worked on the buildings all his life so I says “Don’t mind the gun Da we can sort ‘em out”

He lifted the gun and loaded two cartridges into it and slung the belt over his shoulder. We walked through the kitchen to the dividing door between the house and the shop and a more comical pair you never did see. Him with his long johns on and me in my underpants.

We walked into the shop and a shadow passed the front window and he let fly with both barrels. The window took the brunt of the discharge and the next few frames are indelibly etched in my mind. The Guards came the next day to investigate a complaint about a discharge of a firearm at 3am in the morning and asked the old lad what happenend
