Title: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: Josedinho on October 22, 2008, 12:42:59 PM After reading another Christmas related thread i mentioned it at work and we started talking about Christmas and arranging post collections for days we are finishing early etc..
Don't know how but we got on to the subject of where you would send a letter to Santa to. Caused a big (some might say mass) debate and nobody really agreed. I don't know why but i always thought it was Lapland but i've heard Greenland, North Pole, Lapland, Reindeerland mentioned but is there a right answer? Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: Claw75 on October 22, 2008, 12:43:42 PM I'd send it to lapland. We email him though :D
Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: TightEnd on October 22, 2008, 12:44:59 PM Lapland
I know this with 100% certainty as my kids send a letter to him there every year and get things they ask for Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: Graham C on October 22, 2008, 12:47:50 PM Lapland is right. My friends are off to see him over Christmas so it must be the real place.
Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: Geo the Sarge on October 22, 2008, 12:54:40 PM Dear Santa,
I have been a good boy this year and would like the following [ input as required] Then find someone with a coal fire and send it up the chimmney (lum), always worked for my kids. Geo Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: gatso on October 22, 2008, 12:58:43 PM doesn't matter where you address them to, the clever folks at the post office take all the letters for him straight to his house irrelevant of the actual address on the envelope
Title: Re: Santa Claus, Father Christmas etc Post by: Graham C on October 22, 2008, 01:18:19 PM So Lapland is just a forwarding address?

There are Santas in shopping centres everywhere. You can bet that there will be a Santa in any given shopping centre, on posters, packaging and catalogues. In this way, the real Christmas message is perverted into something quite different.
This is a ridiculous situation! What exactly is a Santa? It is an ugly figure that encourages us to buy more and more. If you tell a child that Santa does not exist then he or she starts to cry! What kind of beliefs are we giving our children? Why do we lead them to latch onto a bogus, fantasy figure with little meaning only to feed them disappointment later? Everyone knows that Santa is a silly fiction, so why do we let ourselves be bombarded by it? Santa has nothing to do with Christmas. As we seem to be unable to give Christmas a significant meaning, we would rather ignore the absurdity of this Santa thing and let it persist. Spare and save us from all this Santa garbage! No to Santa! For me, this enormous fixation with Santa is a symptom of a deeper underlying illness in society. If we no longer have any kind of faith then we should take the consequences of that rather than filling the barren emptiness with nonsense and silliness. Has life become so utterly empty that we must fill it with Santa figures? If so, it is a sad indication that something has gone tragically wrong. Join now! Membership of ASLA is completely free.
