Strange timing, late in the evening before a big game.

I thought he would get a bit more time given the amount of chasing they did to get him. Fk knows who will takeover.

spurs seem to have an enriched history in either picking shite managers, or picking great managers and messing them up.... which seems strange to me as from an outsiders point of view their upper management seems to have the fundamentals pretty sorted in a fiscal sense.

And that is why anyone with an ounce of knowledge will always tell you that football and finance are enemies ... the two are poles apart and toatlly contradict each other in todays game.

I guess so, but for the life of me I cant see how a board that has good financial sense can get it so fkin wrong outside of the boardroom. Some of the decisions, like selling all the strikers/managerial decisions, it just seems like utter madness, and my point is that a board that can manage a club financially should have the ability to put something in place to get it semi-right outside of the boardroom. I could understand if they got it wrong in every department!

Are the directors in control of everything? is this why Ramos was such a failure? no leeway to do anything on his own accord?

Title: Re: Spurs sack Ramos
Post by: Colchester Kev on October 26, 2008, 01:12:29 AM
Thing is Totalise, boards that control finances with their lives, usually have too much control in the football side of the club, it is a disaster waiting to happen ... Commoli  shoulders most of the blame here, he was the buyer/seller of players and answered to the board, not Ramos.

a shoddy mess that is really embarrassing for Spurs.

Will be intersting to see what the board have told redknapp about the role of "director of football" and whether we will not go down that route again ...

Who knows, but whats the worst that can happen ... we get relegated ?  well we were getting relegated with Ramos thats for sure.

Title: Re: Spurs sack Ramos
Post by: totalise on October 26, 2008, 01:15:50 AM
would you be in this mess if Ramos got full control, rather then just being a peg-man for the board to tell what to do? I think all this director of football stuff is complete nonsense, let the manager select the players for both team selection and for transfer requirements. By all means, use someone like a director of football to find what the manager wants, but it seems ridic that the director can make these decisions outwith of the managers desires. I cant imagine Arsene/Fergie accepting a player that they didn't really want to buy!!

should be an interesting couple of weeks for ya. I'd expect harry to bring in 2 or 3 on loan straight away to steady the ship and he's always up for an interesting signing

i think Spurs should of given O'Leary the chance for the top job with Adams as his No.2

Maybe George Graham as director of football

Would we be in this mess ... Well look at the evidence, after the cup final last season, we couldnt buy a point ... Now if Ramos was a good manager, he wouldnt have let that happen, you cant allow your players to mentally switch off and play the rest of the season like it didnt mattter, it has carried on to this season and its like a runaway train going downhill. The buck stops with him and his inability to motivate a team of players, and getting them playing like they didnt just meet each other over breakfast, which is how spurs have been playing ... no team spirit, no bonding .

Harry is a master at getting players playing for each other and creating a bit of a brotherhood in the dressing room.

I hope he wins the fkin lot ;)

Title: Re: Spurs sack Ramos
Post by: totalise on October 26, 2008, 01:32:07 AM
If he had full control, would he have allowed his entire strike force to leave, and would he have left it so they had no time to make replacements? maybe he was in control and hes just a bad manager! but if you aren't allowed to manage your team and the directors piss in your soul and dont let you do your job, how much can you do?

Harry seems a great manager, prolly as crooked as they come, but he seems to know how to motivate, and with spurs team, that is prolly a v v important thing.

Prolly just me, but my immediate reaction was ;

Harry .  Is he a tw*t or a c*nt ?

How many times has he done this to clubs over the years ?

So who's starting a book on how long before he walks this time ?

[ X ] Good motivator
[    ] Loyal to club and fans
[    ] Worth the risk

EDIT

Just listened to his interview on Setanta,  Harry is implying that Portsmouth pushed him out coz they need the £5 mill.  I'm sure that the fans will believe that.  It's put my mind at rest.  I realise he did it to help Pompey after all, not coz he's a greedy, selfish mofo.

That's alright then.

I think Harry is one of the most underrated managers in the EPL if anyone can turn this around it is he.  I am just pissed that Spurs had a manager lined up and practically in the door before they wheeled Ramos out, I was kinda hoping they would have gone for Strachan.

And the journalists name.....

Harry Pratt

Surely a new keeper will be on Harry's shopping list for January.

1534: Keeper calamities at the Lane. I'm not sure Heurelho Gomes is your man to deal with Bolton's set-pieces. He flaps at a free-kick, leaving Kevin Davies to shoot against the foot of the post.

I hated the appointment of Jol, coz I thought he was the right man for the job, and was surprised when he was sacked, but I could see that 'spurs weren't moving forward like they should have.  And I was happy with the arrival of Ramos because a) of the way they went about getting him, and b) he couldn't speak a word of English.

All good so far.  But then it all went tragically wrong.  Ramos immediately got the team fitter and tighter, and they were competitive against any team in the country.  Their semi final win against us wasn't even remotely a shock.  Ramos obviously knew what he was doing - the git.

So this season I was expecting horribly good results, even without Berbatov and Keane.  Bent is better than half decent, and they were bringing in a wonder guy from Russia.

So I was weeing myself with pleasure at the start of the season, but it went too far even for me.  Spurs were an embarassment to football.  I don't want them to go down.  I want them good enough that they can take some points off Chelsea & ManU, whilst still being frail enough that we can run rings round them.

Problem now is Levy is coming out of this looking like a good guy.  And Harry, even though I can't stand him as a person, is a damn good manager.

I want to see Spurs out of the relegation zone, preferably replaced by the likes of Bolton or West Brom will be fine by me.  But can we stop too much decent football please, at least until after the end of the month.

One more total collapse FTW, please

Nem where do u put the blame for whats happened this season/since cup final

Commli/Ramos/The players' in no order.

how do u rate the new players brought in

Dos Santos has been a major disappointment. I've seen him play for Barca and he was immense.

The new goal keeper is a vast improvement on Robinson. He has made a couple of howlers against Villa and Udinese. I still think he is a top keeper, and I am a lot happier with him in goal then Robinson. Modric is obviously a class act, his size is worrying, but that hasn't stopped Fabregas and Joe Cole excelling, has it? Pavlyuchnko has looked terrible since he's arrived, but he needs time, as he has played continuously for nearly a year.

who do u think will be in/out in Jan

Meh, I don't know tbh? 'arry has given everyone a chance and the slate is clean. Even Ghaly has a squad number now...

do u think Harry will bring Jamie in as a coach?

I fucking hope not!

Whats the best that you can hope for this season

Mid table and a good cup run. 6th is too far away for us now, with Villa and Citeh looking strong.
