Title: Football mascot Post by: Matt50 on October 31, 2008, 10:23:41 AM My son is a mascot tomorrow for Crystal Palace for the match against Sheffied Wednesday.
He is really looking forward to it (and so am I!), but i was just wondering if anyone else had ever done this or had a family member do it and what they thought of it. Title: Re: Football mascot Post by: Geo the Sarge on October 31, 2008, 10:43:13 AM I won an auction to have my son Michael as mascot for Colchester at Layer Road some years back. He had a fantastic day, taking part in the warm up and showing off his skills. Family were well treated too.
He had a whale of a timeand was fortunate enough a few weeks later to take player of the year at his boys club and was presented with his award by then Colchester captain Peter Cawley. I'm sure he'll have a great time. Geo Title: Re: Football mascot Post by: TightEnd on October 31, 2008, 10:43:34 AM My sons did it at Leicester. They really really really enjoyed it. They were 8 and 7 at the time. We were awful that season, but it didn't matter that day. Danny Tiatto (!) was the captain.
Secretly I loved it too, proximity to the tunnel, benches prior to the match. This season of course with the respect campaign both teams line up and shake hands prior to the match and the ballboys are part of that process, so that's a little something extra too Title: Re: Football mascot Post by: kinboshi on October 31, 2008, 12:32:20 PM Being the mascot as a kid must be brilliant.
As an aside, I knew the fella who used to be the 'mascot' dressed up as an Eagle at Palace. This was a good 15 years ago though, so I doubt he's still doing it. He was a headmaster during the week. My boy enjoyed it and hasnt stopped talking about it.
Day started with him going into the changing rooms and having his picture taken with all the players, and they also all signed his shirt which we are going to get framed and put on his wall. He then went onto the pitch and had a kickabout with the Palace Eagle mascots while we got to sit in the dugouts, probably about 15 yards from where the Palace players were warming up. He then got to walk out with the team, do the 'Friendship' handshake and then warm up with Ben Watson before having his picture taken with the captains and officials. Despite the awful weather the day was superb, the guy that looked after him could not have been more helpful. Only downside for me was that the parents didnt get to go into the changing rooms and meet the players, but that is just me being a bit selfish lol. |
