Title: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: snoopy1239 on November 20, 2005, 12:26:58 PM Read this in a book recently:
· Don’t equate post mortem answers with actual holdings. You want people to respect your play. So lie! So, my questions are: (i) Do you lie about your hands? (ii) Do we want the other players to think we are good or bad at poker? Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: ifm on November 20, 2005, 12:38:33 PM (i) yes
(ii) bad :) Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: snoopy1239 on November 20, 2005, 12:41:04 PM (i) yes (ii) bad :) You don't have much of a choice with (ii), ifm. ;ifm; Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: ifm on November 20, 2005, 12:59:43 PM ouch
Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: thetank on November 20, 2005, 03:38:30 PM I think getting a t-shirt printed which says "Please don't ask me what my hole cards were as a refusal often offends" could be the way to go.
That or just plain lying. The truth will set your chips free. It has done mine in the past, so I'm now of the shut up or make it up mindset. Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: TightEnd on November 20, 2005, 04:37:28 PM I had a lovely one the other night, arrogant guy bullying a table of semi-newbies when I got moved to the table...He raises on button I call in BB with Kc Js
Flop Ks Qs 6c I check call turn Jd Ooh, now then.... I check call, risking a draw hitting, putting him on AK by now the river's a blank, I bet out 3/4 of the pot He dwells and dwells, and does that annoying thing some people do of going through what I might possibly have verbally and so I say to him "ask me one question, any question..I'll answer you truthfully andf to prove it whatever happens I'll show you my cards at the end of the hand" He asks "Have you got top pair?" I answer "yes", as I have, only more so (so I haven't lied but haven't told the whole truth) He calls in a flash with AK and I beat him with two pair Needless to say he shut up with the "impress the newbies" stuff thereon in! to answer the beagle's questions a) yes lie, selectively and to an opponent who might be troubled by you b) create the illusion you are a bad player, ig you need to create the illusion Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: thetank on November 20, 2005, 04:57:12 PM nice one,
Perhaps he should have asked, is AK winning? What a waste of a question, that's like asking the genie of the lamp for a coke. Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: ifm on November 20, 2005, 05:50:40 PM lol, i love to say (when they are umming and arring about calling) "i'll show you if you like"
then muck :) :) winds folk up a tad (only to the 'big i am's' though. Title: Re: Respect Or No Respect? Post by: Royal Flush on November 20, 2005, 06:11:57 PM I do both. Just depends on the situation!
