We thank you. Title: Re: Lest we forget Post by: Colchester Kev on November 11, 2008, 11:14:51 AM They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Title: Re: Lest we forget Post by: Robert HM on November 11, 2008, 11:34:20 AM “When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

Siegfried Sassoon (1919) Have you forgotten yet?... For the world’s events have rumbled on since those gagged days, Like traffic checked while at the crossing of city-ways: And the haunted gap in your mind has filled with thoughts that flow Like clouds in the lit heaven of life; and you’re a man reprieved to go, Taking your peaceful share of Time, with joy to spare. But the past is just the same-and War’s a bloody game... Have you forgotten yet?... Look down, and swear by the slain of the War that you’ll never forget. Do you remember the dark months you held the sector at Mametz- The nights you watched and wired and dug and piled sandbags on parapets? Do you remember the rats; and the stench Of corpses rotting in front of the front-line trench- And dawn coming, dirty-white, and chill with a hopeless rain? Do you ever stop and ask, ‘Is it all going to happen again?’ Do you remember that hour of din before the attack- And the anger, the blind compassion that seized and shook you then As you peered at the doomed and haggard faces of your men? Do you remember the stretcher-cases lurching back With dying eyes and lolling heads-those ashen-grey Masks of the lads who once were keen and kind and gay? Have you forgotten yet?... Look up, and swear by the green of the spring that you’ll never forget. Title: Re: Lest we forget Post by: thetank on November 11, 2008, 11:46:53 AM Cheers lads.

"Walters War" it tells the story of Walter Tull, who became the first Black officer in the British military.
He was also one of the first black players to become a professional footballer ... I was ignorant of his story despite the fact that he played for spurs, and had agreed terms to go and play for Glasgow Rangers when the first world war broke out. Walter Tull was killed in action on 25 March 1918, during the last German offensive of the First World War. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Tull (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42297000/jpg/_42297466_rem7_field300_getty.jpg) Title: Re: Lest we forget Post by: bolt pp on November 11, 2008, 07:56:18 PM [ ] gg illiterate BBC captionmonkey (http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh164/mm21_bucket/reefs.gif) what happend here? my spellings so bad, what did they misspell, "day" or "live"? "You looked through your pockets and found that you'd got one fag left. But did you smoke it? Did you hell! You broke it in two and gave half to the man next to you."
