Title: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: Jellybean on November 21, 2005, 08:16:32 AM Just a quick note to the guys who provided the footy bets for last weekend.
Despite the disappointment of Leyton Orient & Sheff Utd only managing a draw I still managed to get 5 ducks in a row with Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Accrington & Hamilton. Anyone know how much I won for a £5 accumulator?? Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: TightEnd on November 21, 2005, 11:13:57 AM No, how much Jellybean?
did you need 6 for a payout or was 5 enough? Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: Jellybean on November 21, 2005, 11:33:34 AM 5 was enough.
I'm down the bookies in about an hour to collect! I'll report back after lunch. I expect around £70-£80 back though. Apparently Leyton Orient WERE winning against Stockport but conceded a late equalizer which would have given me 6 out of 7 and as for Sheff Utd (top v bottom) well who'd have believed THAT scoreline! Bit of a bummer really. Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: TightEnd on November 21, 2005, 11:57:22 AM there is always one certainty that trips up, always
anyway reminds me of a semi famous geezer in betting circles who is callled the "carrier bag man", name is Roger something his modus operandi is to back virtual certainties as the return he gets exceeds the return the cash is making in the building society...ie £8000 on to win £1000 that sort of thing He walks into the betting shop with the loot in a tatty old carrier bag and puts his bet on Now this strategy generally works fine but one day a couple of years ago he came seriously unstuck when one of the big two Scottish teams, Celtic I think, lost to Inverness Caledonian thistle and he did his dough at long odds on...which is why Building Societies exist and bookies drive round in 7 series beamers I suppose. the game inspired the immortal Sun Headline "SuperCaleyareFantasticCelticareAtrocious" anyway, well done! Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: redsimon on November 21, 2005, 11:59:51 AM Looking at the odds in the other thread:
Accrington 1.5 Arsenal 1.83 Hamilton 1.57 Chelsea 1.33 Man Utd 1.67 £5 acca £47.85...so possibly £50 if you got better odds as these are just approximations. Nice to get something back :) Shows I must be bored, waiting for delivery of my dialysis stuff, daytime TV sucks :) Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Post by: Jellybean on November 21, 2005, 01:02:42 PM Just been down the bookies and collected something a little shy of £42...can that be right?
Anyway I'll be reading this weekends tips again with interest...Looks like Man Utd, Chelsea, Burnley, Huddersfield, Accrington, Celtic, Ross County. Title: Re: Winna Winna...Chicky Dinna!! Yeah I know people who do this sort of stuff, buying money basically, but you can seriously get unstuck! My mate backs horses in running who are miles in front with one fence to go - unfortunately one fell last week! Also some people got seriously stung on the Spurs game the other year v Man City when Spurs were 3-0 up at half time and Barton had been sent off for Man C, people lumped on Spurs on the exchanges and were seriously out of pocket. Also some geezer LAID Cardiff by accident when they were 3-0 up v Sheff Wed the other week for 25k, pressed the wrong button! |
