Title: Job Interview in London Post by: rossfourfive on November 19, 2008, 11:03:10 AM Right i have a job interview in London on New Broad Street on the 12th of December at 9:00. I live in Glasgow and have never been to London and know nothing about it except there is large river that flows through it.
The company i'm going for an interview with will reimburse me £200 expenses so i'm thinking train down on the 11th stay in hotel and train back on 12th after the interview. If anyone could recommend cheap (not too cheap as i'm not paying) hotels which are reasonably close to either New Broad Street and/or Euston i would appreciate it. Cheers Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: Claw75 on November 19, 2008, 11:05:41 AM There's a travelodge at Euston, but it's not cheap! There is also a Thistle at Euston which you can get at discounted rates through the secret hotel deals on Lastminute.com
Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: AndrewT on November 19, 2008, 11:23:04 AM The travelodge/premier inn type places are not cheap, but they're still cheaper than most places in London (even the secret deals on last minute are generally wildly expensive places reduced to mildly expensive prices) and seeing as you're not paying I wouldn't worry about costs too much.
Seeing as you're new to London, here's a few tips from a local. Remember to wear shoes that have soles with good grip - our gold-paved roads can be quite slippery, especially when wet. You are encouraged to strike up conversation with strangers, especially on public transport - we enjoy nothing more than taking time out of our days to meet new people. Scottish money will be enthusiastically accepted everywhere - in fact it is so highly regarded it is actually worth £1.10 of English money. Remember to insist upon this premium when paying for goods in shops - don't take no for an answer. I hope you find this useful. Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: rossfourfive on November 19, 2008, 11:30:40 AM Haha thanks. I've had plenty problems trying to use Scottish money before but it's nice to know the people of London recognise it's true value.
Can get a travel lodge at Euston for £90 which seems not too bad. I can only see the secret hotels on lastminute for £140 which is probably pushing it. Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: AndrewT on November 19, 2008, 11:35:13 AM Seeing as you're only staying there for a night I'd assume the travellodge would be perfectly fine.

It's all about timing - sometimes you can get a five star hotel for £90, sometimes you can't even get the Travelodge. I expect the train fare is going to be the biggest cost though isn't it? I'm not sure 'Poker Tournament' will be in the list of allowed expenses. Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: rossfourfive on November 19, 2008, 11:49:40 AM Haha thanks. Yea train is going to be around £65 i think. Flight from Prestwick to Stanstead would be cheaper but then i've got the hassle of getting to prestwick from Glasgow and from stanstead into London. Title: Re: Job Interview in London Post by: thetank on November 19, 2008, 11:59:52 AM I thought the whole point of lastminute.com is you buy things at the last minute, rather than 3/4 weeks in advance?
Or have they evolved into a service that belies their name?
