A friend of mine today told me he was going to put £1k on Malignaggi to win against Hatton and is convinced he will do it on points. He's much more savvy than I am when it comes to boxing and actually has really good knowledge of fighters etc. However, I was really surprised to hear this prediction.

I'm fairly convinced his prediction won't be the case but maybe thats because I'm biased in Hatton's favour and know little of his opponent. I also realise my knowledge is nowhere near what it should be to take a £1k bet on a whim. I have a few days until I tell him whether or not I'm going to take the bet instead of him putting it on his Will Hill account.

Malignaggi is 2.75 whilst Hatton is 1.40 and a draw is at 26.0.

I also mentioned offering him 3.0 for Malignaggi to win on points (so an outright KO doesnt count).

Good bets? Bad bets? Opinions please!

He won't knock Hatton out so there is one result to ignore. Not sure of the benefit of him making the bet with a mate rather than with a bookie. For what it's worth I think the chances are your mate  would lose his £1k.

Fwiw i expect Hatton to win on points, reasonably comfortably. I have only seen Malignaggi fight once on the Hatton undercard and he was pretty mediocre on the night.

I wouldn't want to go near that bet at 2.75. way too short imo

I personally can't see past Hatton to win comfortably, either on points but more likely via a stoppage.

Not sure if Malignaggi has the capability to keep Hatton away for the 12 rounds, and the fact the's not known as a big puncher means that Hatton will feel comfortable coming forward and through Malignaggi's punches to land his hurtful shots.

Just checked his record, and Malignaggi hasn't stopped an opponent since 2003.

Malignaggi is a classy boxer, with a world class chin, but no power. There is a myth that fancy boxers can dance for 12 rounds against bruisers and win the title, this wont happen. Hatton has the perfect style to walk through pitta-patter boxers like Maliignaggi and grind out a points win through sheer workrate, he wont knock him out because a superb defense and superb chin will see the final bell, but the yanks judge on aggression and hatton will appeal to this (FYI, Hatton lost to Mayweather because Mayweather was too strong, not because he 'outmanouvered' him like Malignagi is planning to)

You don't think that Hatton could stop Malignaggi?  With his relentless attacks and his body shots, I think he can wear Malignaggi down and stop him in the middle/late rounds.  Malignaggi's other problem is that he likes to get involved too much with fighters, instead of boxing them.  He isn't going to win a toe-to-toe battle with Hatton, and I think that's what it'll become.  Hatton will definitely try to impose himself in the fight, and the stoppage isn't improbable for me.

nah that's not me at all. a tad unfair of you to suggest that but I can understand your thinking. He ONLY places bets via will hill. His sports/poker roll is in there and he wont open any other accounts for many reasons so I sometimes take bets that he would otherwise place with them. We're both gamblers and understand that we're gonna win and lose money - we would much rather each other wins when the other loses than the bookies getting it. I can honestly say its never even affected our friendship in the slightest and we aren't betting amounts where its gonna affect our day to day.

Plus, if i take the bet, I guarantee you I'm not laying it anywhere.

Watched the sky sports 1 hour documentry on Malignaggi last night, we interesting. One thing Malignaggi wont do it give up he seems to dig deep and give 100% even when cut, beatup and battered. Should be good fight.

if you really want to take this bet and your mate's happy with it you'd be crazy not to take the 1k and put it on the exact same bet at any of the many bookies/exchanges offering better odds. not doing so is akin to burning money

He certainly could, but generally I would say he has a better chin than 95% of Hattons previous opponents and a better defence than 95% of his opponents, he will also do what most boxers in his position will do in the late rounds and try and coast (as he wont be able to stop hatton late and may convince himself he is ahead because he isnt in pain). Hatton could KO him late on (9th is a good time to do it btw) but I think most of the time he makes the final bell and convinces himself he did a lot better than he actually did.

I get that you can lay off £750 and guarantee yourself £250 profit - to most people thats worth doing.

Alternatively place the whole £1,000 for Malignaggi to win and either break even or win £1,000 with no risk!

Unless you are lighting your fags with tenners then you'd be daft not to.

Normally I would say dont take it because he has had to come up several weights to fight Oscar, but Pacman was freakishly big for the weights he has fought at so I think its less of an issue. Will deffo be a better fight than this weekends.

The winners of each will fight apparantley, dunno who I would prefer to see ricky fight. Maybe pacman, just because it would be non stop

I think Matthew Hatton will lose to Ben Tackie tomorrow. Tackie is short atm (4/6) but think u will get even money tomorrow when money comes in for Hatton.

Yeah, Matthew Hatton doesnt really deserve to be fighting someone as good as Ben Tackie, he is barely British title level.

That said, I would cheer him on from start to finish if he ever got a world title challenge, it would be a great story to see him finally step out of his bros shadow

I havent seen either of them fight but Tackie is 8 years older and has lost his last 4 fights by MD/SD and two UD's. Tackie also lost to Ricky Hatton by UD 5 years ago.

I would have been livid if I had put a points bet on, what a ridic stoppage. Malignaggi was never gonna win but he wasnt going to get KO'd either.

Hatton was impressive, Malignaggi was shite, exactly the sort of fight I expected.

Hatton deffo has a couple of good fights left in him.
