Title: Paypal warning ! Post by: Ecosse on November 20, 2008, 07:30:47 PM Here's a short letter I've had to send to my credit card company after trying to use this bad-ass company to try and send a friend in New Zealand $500 :- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Sir, Card No : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Further to my conversation on 19th November, 2008 with Will on extension 4845 I write to request cancellation of the debit on my card by Paypal on 12th November, 2008. I enclose screen dumps from my paypal account which I setup for this transaction (1st and last time use of Paypal) as confirmation that the payment has not been released to xxxxxxxx. The circumstances are as follows :- I wished to transfer $500 dollars to a friend in New Zealand and she suggested using Paypal as she has an existing Paypal account. I go to the paypal website and use my credit card to transfer $500 to her paypal email address. The transaction goes through, everything looks fine and my friend receives an email right away from Paypal saying ‘You have funds’ or suchlike. All looks fine, paypal web site says transaction completed etc, etc. Now the fun begins. My friend tries to move the funds from her paypal account to her bank account and is told the transaction is under investigation (for card fraud). This leads to a series of telephone calls from me to Paypal and I confirm that yes, I made the transaction, it’s my card etc. Days pass and still the funds are not released. I make more phone calls and am informed that the transaction will not complete until I give paypal my bank account details for security purposes. Now, after this absurd treatment of me and the incompetence of Paypal in general, there is no way on this earth that company are getting my bank account details ! Why would I give them my bank account details when I used a credit card ? So the state of affairs remains that Paypal have instantly debited my credit card on the 12th of November and have still not released the funds to xxxxxxxxxxxxx (the recipient). They say they will not do so until I give them my bank account details which I am not going to do. I have filled in complaint forms on their website, made numerous phone calls and keep getting the same response. I wish to have this transaction cancelled as Paypal have not fulfilled their obligations and are withholding the funds from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Documentation enclosed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BE WARNED - This COMPANY SUCK Title: Re: Paypal warning ! Post by: WYSINWYG on November 30, 2008, 07:06:57 PM Ebay own Paypal, you now pretty much need Paypal to buy and sell on Ebay.
Credit card fraud on the web is out of control. Paypal must get some false positives when they run checks. I can totally understand your reluctance. Personally, I would have just handed my bank details to them. They might be a pita at times but they're superlegit and the UK arm is covered by Data Protection so your bank details are going nowhere. Bummer tho what happened to you. Just don't use Western Union or MoneyBookers instead :D |
