To win this, a City needs a great train station. Aberdeen gets 6.5. Marks deducted for being in Scotland, obv. Title: Re: Rate my City. Post by: tikay on November 25, 2008, 11:53:47 PM Ruislip - nice pics Claire, especially the Bus, which looks like an early RT. Ruislip Lido, & the miniature Railay there. What a memory. I ran away from home as a little boy, aged 8 or 9 I suppose, & ended up at Ruislip Lido, sleeping in the Gents Toilets at night, & helping the man on the Miniature Railway during the day. I got found at 5am on Bank Holiday Monday, by a copper. He asked me where I was going. "Walking my dog" I said. "So, where's the dog then?" he asked.... "What dog? Oh, THAT dog. It ran away" I said. "I think you have, too" said he. Adventure ends. Title: Re: Rate my City. Post by: thetank on November 25, 2008, 11:54:55 PM Lot's of points for Ruislip me feels.

Post by: rossfourfive on November 26, 2008, 12:18:15 AM The only bad thing i will say about Aberdeen is the planning department are scumbags what with the whole Donald Trump golf course. It should've been an insta yes when he offered to build the thing. Especially with the down turn in the economy atm.
The amount of jobs and tourism its going to bring to the area>>>>>a few birds and a badger living on a beach Title: Re: Rate my City. Title: Re: Rate my City. Post by: booder on November 26, 2008, 11:05:04 AM St.Withburgas Well
Story: St Withburga Well was the orginal burial place for St Withburga (Dereham's Saint). The Bishop of Winchester Ely suggested that Withburga did not belong in Dereham and should be laid to rest next to her three sisters in Ely, but the Dereham folk did not agree. On a visit to Dereham, the Ely Monk's gave the men of Dereham a hearty feast and while they slept, the Monk's broke into the shrine and stole her body. When morning came and the men of Dereham were woken, they found the desecrated tomb and gave pursuit to get their saint back. Unable to retreive her, they returned to the shrine to find the empty tomb was filled with a spring of clear water, which they felt certain was recompense for the loss of St Withburga. Pilgrims still visit the well today. Title: Re: Rate my City. Post by: booder on November 26, 2008, 11:10:41 AM Bishop Bonnors Cottage
Bonners Cottage used to belong to one of the most hated men in England. During Tudor England from 1534 to 1538 Bishop Bonner was the Rector for Dereham. This timber framed building close to the church. With walls of brick, flint, wattle and daub decorated with a coloured frieze of flowers and fruit on its external walls was his residence. This is the Bishop Bonner who is said to have been the man responsible for burning over two hundred heretics during the blood thirsty reign of Queen Mary, first daughter of Henry the 8th. Edmund Bonner was born in the year 1500, he was educated at Oxford and ordained as a priest in 1519. In 1525 he entered the service of Cardinal Wolsey. After Wolsey fall from grace and subsequent execution, it was Bonner who was employed by the King as his ambassador to undertake delicate missions to Rome and other places. Pleased with his service Bonner was eventually given the position of Bishop of London. Edmund Bonner was most unpopular particularly in London even before the days that the 'fires' began, an accusation of excessive cruelty were often leveled at his door. During 'Bloody Marys' reign over two hundred and seventy people were burnt at the stake for heresy against the Catholic Church. Some say that of these, Bonner was responsible for burning two hundred of them. Title: Re: Rate my City. Post by: booder on November 26, 2008, 11:14:49 AM The Station
