Title: Re: 24 Post by: sledge13 on February 23, 2010, 10:25:21 AM Nine episodes in and its looking like the weakest season yet...VERY lazy writing with nuclear rods, Muslim bad guys, a new Ctu (ie exactly the same) and the worst ever sub plot by far...the Dana storyline is so bad I am stunned...still my fave show and some of the other seasons were simply amazing, but they need to get the old writers back and do one more great season and finish with a blockbuster movie which looks like that maybe going to happen anyway...

Its a 100% time filler, I gave it chance to have a connection to the main story but alas zilcho. 1) This show has been canceled and episodes filmed so there was no time to write and shoot a proper resolution for Bauer; one befitting 8 seasons of drama. 2) The greedy pucks want to make a feature film now. Do you think they want to make just 1 movie? Hell no. They want a franchise. Therefore, the film will be given such an ending that suggests a possibility for more story to follow. So no character resolution there. 3) These movies will continue until one of them bombs at the box office or performs below expectations. Since each film (including the first) will be made with the hopes of having more films to follow, the last film in the franchise (even if it is the first and only) will have no satisfying character resolution since they didn't know it would bomb and were planning to make more. 4) If (AND I AM NOT JOKING HERE), they decide to kill Jack at the end of the movie and give him an amazing HERO'S ENDING in which he will go out with a bang; and then if this movie is a hit, they will simply make another one. They will use the old Tony trick. I'm not joking. Tony had his artery intentionally missed by a toxic-syringe-wielding killer; Jack will have a cone of protective energy form around him since he was standing at precisely the right point on the nuclear landmine that he surfed out to sea in order to save the city. I'm serious. They'll pull something like this out of their asses and make another film. Either way, probably no true resolution. Canceling this show after Season 8 was absolutely the right thing to do. As I have been saying all week, this show has become a shadow of its former self and the writers are simply incapable of coming up with a quality plot that doesn't involve things we have already seen time and time again. With that being said there is definitely a part of me that is sad to see it go. 24 was imo, the show that really brought TV up to the quality level we see today. Remember doing TV used to be considered suicidal for an actors career as it was considered 2nd rate entertainment. 24 helped to change all that and is one of the reasons we see so many high profile actors and actresses coming to TV today. It was groundbreaking in so many ways and it really helped to redefine the action genre for Television. Seasons 1-5 are hands down some of the best seasons of Television ever produced. In fact Season 3 is imo the single best season of TV ever produced and the Ryan Chapelle episode in season 3 is hands down the best hour of TV ever produced. The bottom line is that 24 was hands down one of the best television shows ever created and Jack Bauer will be remembered as one of the best TV characters ever created. The quality problems in regards to the final 3 season doesn't change any of this. With that being said it was time to end it. They absolutely, without a single doubt, made the right decision.
