You can only get it by invite, I got 5 invites ... Jane got 1 and Tighty got 1, I have 3 left.

Once you have downloaded it, you will get 5 invites yourself to pass on.

Don't like the adware but will see if I can register without d/l, but as gatso says you can d/l without invite, I think it's a marketing ploy.

Is this like a cross between last.fm and songza?

It may just be that they've recently finished beta testing and haven't updated all their html

I downloaded it after all, no signs of any invites.

You usually get the invites after 24 hours, you will see a link in blue at top of page when they arrive.

Watched the vid, doesn't seem to do anything new. Will leave you to it :P

Definitely not a full catalogue, but I expect that to improve as more people get involved.

Like the ridic amount of Prodigy remixes though.

The number of New Model Army tracks isn't too shoddy. 

You don't need an invite to download it.

And so far it's found a decent range of songs for all the artists I've looked up - so definite :)up from me.

new feature that I've found out about today

I'm crap at finding new music that I like but have similar tastes to a mate who's a dj and is very good at finding new music. he can just set up a playlist and send me the link and when I click on it it opens up in my client. I like very much

Just use last.fm it will do it all for you. Compatible with spotify too ;)

closing it just minimises to the system tray thingy. right click on the little green circly thingy on your task bar, bottom right, and choose exit

our protocols. After investigating we concluded that this group
had gained access to information that could allow testing of a
very large number of passwords, possibly finding the right one.
The information was exposed due to a bug that we discovered and
fixed on December 19th, 2008. Until last week we were unaware
that anyone had had access to our protocols to exploit it.

Along with passwords, registration information such as your email
address,birth date, gender, postal code and billing receipt
details were potentially exposed. Credit card numbers are not
stored by us and were not at risk. All payment data is handled
by a secure 3rd party provider.

If you have an account that was created on or before December 19th 2008,
we strongly suggest that you change your password and strongly
encourage you to change your passwords for any other services
where you use the same password.

When choosing your password we provide you with an indicator of
the password strength to help you choose a good one. To change
your password please visit your profile page on our website.

For the technically minded amongst you, the information that may
have been exposed when our protocols were compromised is the
password hashes. As stated, we never store passwords, and they
have never been sent over the Internet unencrypted, but the
combination of the bug and the group's reverse-engineering of
our encrypted streaming protocol may have given outsiders access
to individual hashes.

The hashes are salted, making attacks using rainbow tables unfeasible.
Short or otherwise bad passwords could still be vulnerable to
offline targeted brute-force or dictionary attacks on individual
users, but you could not run attacks in parallel. Also, there
has been no known breach of our internal systems. A complete user
database has not been leaked, but until December 19th, 2008 it was
possible to access the password hashes of individual users had
you reverse-engineered the Spotify protocol and knew the
username.

We are really sorry about this and hope you accept our apologies.
We're doubling our efforts to keep the systems secure in order
to prevent anything like this from happening again.

Did any of you try last.fm (http://www.last.fm/) for recommendations?

I really like this, it's very simple, seems to have a large db and nice and quick.
As it's p2p though you may need to be wary of it's brandwidth use though, i stream more and more these days so had to upgrade my connection with bt because they limit usage.
If you regularly go above the limit it can get very very expensive, even with unlimited they have a fair use policy (all isp's have).
Not that spotify uses too much but in conjunction with other programs it adds up.

It does store the tracks locally albeit scattered, i assume to prevent the tracks being saved, i dare say some ckever sod will write a program to intercept the stream and enable you to save the tracks.

I currently use songza and orbit, check out the tracks on songza and grab them with orbit :)
Though for those who have morals spotify is cool!

I used this, works a treat...

some great tracks on the second disk of that album, how do you search for similar stuff(albums particularly)

sigh. if I'd remembered that I'd posted that I wouldn't have had to bother sorting out everyone's invites

not sure about comp albums but if you click on an individual artist you can see their overview and that'll give you a list of similar artists

you'll also get all the albums, both their own and compilations, that they've been on

also if your looking at an artists page, have a look at the very top of the screen , slightly to the right of the middle and it will tell you similar artists to the one your viewing

Is anyone else having problems trying to log into Spotify?

I tried today, but it looked like it was trying to update the software, tried for about 5 mins then said it failed to update. I tried going to the homepage again but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
