Title: Nasty AJ situation
Post by: Cf on December 08, 2008, 12:17:52 PM
ALEA £30 rebuy. 10 players left as 2 tables of 5.

Blinds: 400/800

Villian: 15,500
Hero: 19,000

Villian raises UTG to 2,100
Fold
Hero OTB raises to 5,500 with  Aspades Js
Blinds fold
Villian goes all in
Hero ???

There's a slight bit of history here. Villian has only recently joined the table. On his first hand he raised, and folded to my 3-bet. We're about 5 or 6 hands later now. He's also raised one or two other pots prior to this that I wasn't involved in.

Couple of questions. Am I right to 3-bet here given the stack sizes? The raise is intentionally slightly on the small size to try and look less bluffy given the history, but i'm not sure if that's how this comes across? Am I now committed to call based on pot odds, or given how much I have left and what the blinds are should I fold and let this one go?

Decide what to do here before you 3 bet, how can you possibly 3 bet when so shallow with a hand then go "Oh noes he's a 4 betting me, whats i gonna do?"

Also 3 betting small does not look LESS bluffy it looks MORE bluffy.

Plz always 3 bet snap a 4 bet given this history.

Decide what to do here before you 3 bet

This is definitely the main mistake I made. I made the raise without giving any thought to what situation I was putting myself in if he shoves. I won't be making this mistake again in a hurry :)

OP didn't say if oppo was a moron or not, he has to be shoving with some equity here can't be any 2, unless like i say he is really really bad

Villian was Nick Carter. He had  Jh Jd. Was just thinking I probably shouldn't have put myself in this position in the first place.

As said, you need to decide before you 3 bet.

Nicks a decent player and wouldn't be 4 bet shoving light here as hes pretty sure your getting it in vs him.

I think you have to 3 bet here given the info YOU have on him and the history + the fact your playing 5 handed and his opening range is fairly wide.

btw, how many runners does/did the £30r get, and how much £ up top?

Only 12 runners to start, though it got up to 17. Don't think many people knew it was a 6:30 start. Pot was about £1200 I think.

Yeah don't 3bet without a plan. In fact just shove if your to 3bet it and as played you can never fold.
The stacks dictate everything here
