(I hate change) it's been a while since I upgraded but iirc there's pretty much no visual change, you probs won't even notice the difference. it is faster though and probably more stable. and you won't keep getting annoying reminders to upgrade. jdi. Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: RED-DOG on December 08, 2008, 02:49:43 PM OK. Took the plunge. seems ok. Ty.
Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 08, 2008, 02:54:50 PM Yes, download it (notice you already have...).
You probably won't notice many things, but they've made it more secure, fixed memory leaks, etc., so it and your computer should run better. I don't know if you're running any add-ons, but some don't run on FF3 - or you have to find alternative versions to download. Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: Acidmouse on December 08, 2008, 02:55:54 PM I like the colour tab addon and the orange cat theme :)
Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 08, 2008, 03:23:16 PM Tab-mix plus is an absolute must imo (with the colour tabs as well of course).
I've just looked, and I've got over 30 add-ons, but a lot of them are work-related. Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 08, 2008, 03:44:47 PM Tab-mix plus is an absolute must imo (with the colour tabs as well of course). in idiots terms what does it do? I've read what it's supposed to do but didn't really understand It allows you to set up the way tabs open (and close) according to how you want them to work. So, one example would be when you enter a url in the address bar or do a search in the search box you can have it open in a new tab (rather than the default action of using the current tab). It also makes it easier to reopen tabs you've accidentally closed, and loads of other stuff like that, set actions for a middle click on a tab, change the menu that appears if you right-click on a tab, etc. It's probably the first add-on I install on a new computer when I've installed Firefox. Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: gatso on December 08, 2008, 03:57:26 PM ooh, might have to play with that then. Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 09, 2008, 09:37:31 AM Tom - can you do a 'screengrab' of what you're seeing so we can see exactly what the problem is to help with diagnosis?

Correct, it does look funny. How do I specify something other than the skinny-type font? What are you guys using? What do you think I had before I "upgraded"? Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 09, 2008, 09:51:49 AM I think you might have zoomed.
If you press the ctrl button and the scroll wheel on your mouse, you can zoom in and out. FF3 will remember your zoom settings on a site by site basis. Try that first, and then we can move on to the next solution if that fails... Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: kinboshi on December 09, 2008, 10:36:47 AM I know what it is (I think).
It's to do with font smoothing. Quote You can turn on font smoothing for Firefox, but there is a catch—you have to turn it on for all of Windows at the same time. To turn it on, go to the “Display Properties” dialog box (either through the control panel or by right-clicking on a blank area of the desktop and choosing “Properties”), click the “Appearance” tab, then click the “Effects” button. Under “Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts” choose “ClearType.” This will add the same font smoothing effect in Internet Explorer 7 to everything in Windows, including Firefox. Do you want to try that? Title: Re: Firefox 3 Post by: RED-DOG on December 09, 2008, 10:45:17 AM I know what it is (I think). It's to do with font smoothing.
