My computer is asking me to upgrade to Firefox 3. Iit worth it, is anyone using it, is it much different to use? (I hate change)

it's been a while since I upgraded but iirc there's pretty much no visual change, you probs won't even notice the difference. it is faster though and probably more stable. and you won't keep getting annoying reminders to upgrade. jdi.

Yes, download it (notice you already have...).

You probably won't notice many things, but they've made it more secure, fixed memory leaks, etc., so it and your computer should run better.

I don't know if you're running any add-ons, but some don't run on FF3 - or you have to find alternative versions to download.

I like the colour tab addon and the orange cat theme :)

Tab-mix plus is an absolute must imo (with the colour tabs as well of course). 

I've just looked, and I've got over 30 add-ons, but a lot of them are work-related.

Colour tabs are great, not tried the tab mix tho

It allows you to set up the way tabs open (and close) according to how you want them to work.  So, one example would be when you enter a url in the address bar or do a search in the search box you can have it open in a new tab (rather than the default action of using the current tab).  It also makes it easier to reopen tabs you've accidentally closed, and loads of other stuff like that, set actions for a middle click on a tab, change the menu that appears if you right-click on a tab, etc.

It's probably the first add-on I install on a new computer when I've installed Firefox.

ooh, might have to play with that then. I'm always dragging text from the current tab into the search box and get majorly tilted that the search doesn't open in a new tab

You've installed Tab Mix Plus and restarted Firefox?

Then you click on 'Tools' in the menu and the Tab Mix Plus options can be accessed from there.

Select the text, right click on it, search "x" in google, opens in a new tab.

I have converted to Firefox 3 now, and it is faster, and the poker lobby is wider in sky too

It seems to have changed my font on blonde. I have fine line, thin skinny text now.  :'(

tools > options > content > default font

change to times new roman size 16 (I think this is the standard default)

Doesn't matter which font or size I choose, nothing changes.

Any ideas anyone....?

Is it the size or the actual font you don't like? 

The font. And when I change it nothing happens. Do you ave Firefox 3?

think you need to uncheck the box which says "allow pages to choose their own font" on the advanced button

He's right. 

tools > options > content > default font > advanced  Then untick the wee box

just be careful with this - this means it will ignore any font specfied in a webpage and use the one you choose for it - which may make it look funny.

Tom - can you do a 'screengrab' of what you're seeing so we can see exactly what the problem is to help with diagnosis?

Correct, it does look funny.  How do I specify something other than the skinny-type font?

I think you might have zoomed.

If you press the ctrl button and the scroll wheel on your mouse, you can zoom in and out.  FF3 will remember your zoom settings on a site by site basis.

Try that first, and then we can move on to the next solution if that fails...

Laz: I don't have serf, sans-serf or monospace options.

I know what it is (I think).

It's to do with font smoothing.

OK, done that. It's marginally better, but it's not the same as pre FF3. FFS, FML!

Don't do it!  Opera is very good, but so many sites don't work properly in Opera.

Think about the add-ons....
