Title: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: doubleup on December 08, 2008, 08:05:57 PM I just got a spam e-mail that quoted my home address in the subject line. Its my ISP address and altho I get a lot of spam I don't join forums or generally buy anything using it. I do use it for poker sites. This happened to anyone else? Any suggestions as to how I could find out how they got this info? Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: booder on December 08, 2008, 08:09:32 PM was it one of the ones mentioned here http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=22702.15 i too had my home address stated on it

Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: tikay on December 09, 2008, 08:07:16 PM I can think of a few Online Poker Sites have ceased to trade over the last year or two, due to poor traffic/liquidity. As part of the closing down/tidying up process, & to optimise revenues, they may well have sold their Databases. Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: Bongo on December 09, 2008, 08:14:36 PM The majority of the email addresses I've used to sign up to poker sites have ended up in the hands of spammers some how, even the ones that are still going.

Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: Sark79 on December 10, 2008, 12:11:22 PM I got sent a similar disk. Even if I was tempted to join their site before ( which I wasn't ). It makes me 100% determined never to play there now that they irritate me at home with junk mail. I would rather play somewhere that waits for me to contact them rather than the other way around.
A while back a popular and well used Crypto site phoned me repeatedly over the space of a few weeks asking if I wanted to make a real money deposit. After politely telling them to leave me alone, I made a decision never to play at their site and so far I never have. This was after clicking the 'don't contact me with news' icon when setting up the account. Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: Jon MW on December 10, 2008, 12:30:27 PM ... This was after clicking the 'don't contact me with news' icon when setting up the account. I work in database management and we constantly have to keep on shouting at our clients to not break the data protection act. Most companies don't give it much thought at all - despite the fact that, in theory at least, you can get quite hefty penalties for breaking it. Although I don't think that if it is the poker company itself selling the data they've thought about that, I think it's more likely that they just haven't thought about data protection at all. Title: Re: Worrying spam e-mail Post by: Sark79 on December 10, 2008, 05:21:59 PM I just approach it with a petty childish mindset. If they annoy me, I make myself feel better by never giving them my time again. As I am a fish, I am sure this doesn't bother them a great deal, however it makes me feel slightly better knowing I won't be paying rake at their site.

The annoying thing is the fact the letter starts with "Dear Lewis" as if I am their loyal customer. This is almost as irritating as members from political parties knocking on your door a week before election time and trying to convince you to vote for them. Is anyone actually conned by this stuff?
