I watched Vickky's game show last night on bbc4, has anyone else seen it ? it is so hard, it makes the eggheads look like a kids show.

I tried that but like most blokes I put it all the way up and I'm on 10 but where can I go from there? Nowhere. What I normally do with my media players is that if I need that extra push over the cliff, you know what I do?

Bouncing this one - wasn't sure this program has been mentioned before. Sure enough, it has, and I must have missed it.

Anyway, series 3 started a couple of weeks ago. I only discovered this for the last couple of episodes last year. Really interesting quiz show, a little less moronic than the usual fare, and surprisingly play-along-able. Monday, 8:30, BBC4. Me and the wife actually managed to get over 2 questions right between us on the last one :).

haven't seen this show but can relate to watching a show and only getting the odd question right but being well chuffed when i did - University Challenge, watched it for years and probably peaked around 5 or 6 right in a single show.

Only Connect is the nuts.

Quiz shows are, in essence, all about the questions, and OC has fantastic questions.

University Challenge may as well be Family Fortunes compared to Only Connect :). Even so, surprisingly compulsive viewing.

Family Fortunes, Catchphrase and Bullseye were the greatest Gameshows made, none come anywhere near close to how good they were!

Funnily enough, I used to work with the guy that sets the questions (David Bodycombe). Haven't spoken to him in years though. He quit work to become a quiz/games consultant. Set the puzzles in the Metro for several years, and googling him reveals he seems to have been quite busy. He devised some Crystal Maze games when he was 12 or something :). And now he gets to work with Vicky Coren on a regular basis. Git :).

For a straightforward quiz show with plenty of good questions, no gimmicks and no waffle, (Tell us a funny story about yourself, "Well Les, I once missed the bus and had to walk to work") you can't beat 'Fifteen to One'

Fifteen to One was clearly the best quiz show ever - getting rid of it was the most bonkers thing Channel 4 ever did, as they then had a succession of 'nowhere near as good' quiz shows in the same slot.

The one thing that took the edge off the show was the fact it became dominated by the professional quizzers so if one of them got to the final, they'd just take questions and by the time they got one wrong they were too far ahead for anyone else to win.

It's produced by Presentable in Cardiff, who are the company who made Late Night Poker/other poker programmes, so they'd already know Vicky well.

She's pretty good, I think. Can read the autocue with the best of them, and her obviously off-the-cuff bits usually work too.

She even resisted some obvious jokes when they had a team from a gay men's choir on it a few weeks ago :).

you lie, they're about flashing lights and bonus rounds and looking at what you couldve won and surveying 100 people and sexy hostessess carressing white goods and hitting a hotspot and filling in the blanks and spinning a wheel and taking a p from bob and phoning a friend.

Anyone see this week's episode? "The Gamblers" absolutely hammered their opposition, 33 points scored, which is highest I've ever seen. Very very impressive. Their oppo was rubbish though. Me and the wife pretty much solved their wall in about a minute, they got one group.

She is a journo/author, not a 'poker player'

Oppo were so so rubbish. I did lol when each of them were described as being 'an Oxford maths graduate'. From the age of them this must have been at least 30 years ago and yet they were still defining themselves through where they went to university. Always a sign of not being the sharpest.

The walls were noticeably easier this week - the last few weeks have featured some which have left me baffled. Though the missing vowels round was a lot harder this week than in previous weeks.

I was shocked to discover that on the screens the contestants see to pick their questions, they don't see the Greek letters symbols, they see a screen with ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA, etc written in English.

I lol'd when they all looked blank at being told that Craggy Island was from Father Ted

Wouldn't be so sure - remember they had an easy wall and were playing muppets. Also they got 5 points from the bingo calls question - don't think I've a) seen a team get 5 points on that round before and b) seen a question which it was so easy to get 5 points on.

Just watched that ep, first time i have seen it, liked the show.

They got 3pts on this question though, even though they pretty much knew it on the 5pt.

Ah yes, you're right.

This happens a lot - they know an answer but take another picture 'to be sure', thus costing them points.

Wall became easy because they picked out Nigella as a herb and hit the first row straight away

They also did very well on the last round which makes them dangerous against anybody, not just muppets

Very very highly unlikely. They'll have just pulled her in as a presenter.

It'll have been David Bodycombe - he's done the puzzle things in newspapers for years and used to devise games for the Crystal Maze.

 New comedy news quiz starts this friday, BBC2 10pm. One of the guests is Vicky.

Instantly loved it. My mum is a proper quizzer and loved it when some people wrote into to say they thought using the Greek alphabet was pretentious, so they started using Egyptian hieroglyphs instead.

Bouncy bounce. New series of Only Connect started this week. Nearly missed it. Mondays 8.30 BBC Four, then repeated at what-o-clock am on Tuesday morning. And IPlayer, obv. Not seen the first one yet, no spoilers please :).

Anyone who has not seen it before, do. It's most excellent (I'm assuming, unless they've radically changed the format for Series 5).

Between this and daily Pointless, my TV quiz life is complete.

New Only Connect tomorrow (Monday) BBC4 8.30pm. I for one am looking forward to having a deep brain massage from the delectable Ms Coren.

I saw the trailer tonight and she looked totally stunning. So pleased she ain't a Ms anymore as it stops me thinking "What could have been" :)

One of my very favourite shows on TV. Much much more about the questions for me: a proper quiz with testing questions, challenging lateral thinking.

Had no choice, 15 to 1 ran out of contestants in the end. They wrote to me twice asking if I wanted to have another go. Maybe that was just coz I was so hopeless first time round tbf.

Also, just like to point out I hammered Nirvana 8-1 in a type-off and also won Uni Chal 10-7.

I absolutely loved 15to1. Used to watch it every afternoon after school. Nick Terry, Bill McKaig, Michael Prentice and, of course, Daphne Fowler are the regulars who spring to mind.

Terry was a pilot, I seem to recall. McKaig the first to get 433 was a Church of Scotland Minister. Prentice was some sort of teacher I think (history?) and went on to win the first Mastermind that Clive Anderson presented on the Discovery Channel.

Wasn't old enough to go on the show when it was on - and not convinced I'd have the stones to do it if they put it on again - but definitely fond memories of post-school milk, Bourbons and William G!

Now I have Only Connect, tho.
