Title: another QQ hand Post by: lazaroonie on December 19, 2008, 11:37:06 AM early in online MTT (double stack 7.5K gtd ipoker).
blinds 20/40 you have almost starting stack (3K). UTG + 2 you pick up QQ raise to 160 hijack (2920 chips) re-raises to 400 cutoff (2950) calls button (3200) re-raises to 640. your move ? Title: Re: another QQ hand Post by: EvilPie on December 19, 2008, 11:49:25 AM I can't resist sticking the lot in here but I wouldn't be shocked to find out that I'm behind.
I guess with it being a double stack there's the possibility of passing but I'm struggling to find it even given this action. Title: Re: another QQ hand Post by: booder on December 19, 2008, 11:53:25 AM do you have any info on your oppos? i lean towards a fold here.
Title: Re: another QQ hand Post by: x_posed on December 19, 2008, 12:02:35 PM If you shove you're obv gonna get at least one caller in this spot. If they both have AK you're in great shape but this is unlikely. Theres a high possibility judging from the action that you're behind here and if you think it's a coinflip then the question is do you want to risk your tourney life at this stage in a 50/50 situation? With 75 bb theres still plently of play left so if you think you have an edge over the rest of the field I fold here and pick a better spot.
Title: Re: another QQ hand Post by: lazaroonie on December 19, 2008, 12:03:00 PM i have no info since it is early in the tourney, apart from the button raiser - we got involved in a raising war on an earlier hand when we both held AA.
anyway, I jam, expecting at least 1 fold - what I get is : hijack goes all in cutoff calls (has about 200 back) button calls. The suprising thing was finding I was ahead : I had QQ hijack has AK cutoff has J 10 (soooted) button has AK. of course the flop comes A K 6 and its all over. I dont think I did anything wrong, just wonder if people realise the significance of double stack tourneys.... The average stack goes up so fast that you just can't afford to miss out on an opportunity like this to dominate your table and have a chance of a nice score. Taking one chance early on can mean you get to take on the short stacks later on without risking your tournament. The way the action has gone means you can probably expect more than 1 caller which isn't really what you want. Fair enough, if it wasnt a double stack tourney then maybe and if I though it was heads up I'd call here but as it stands, you have over 70 bbs here and if your post flop game is good then you can easily build a nice stack over the next few levels playing small ball. I just don't see the point in playing double stack tournaments if you're just gonna lump it in preflop with 75 bb's against 2 or more players. Getting your 3k in at 20/40 and saying "the surprising thing was finding I was ahead" is clearly spewy. You have only put 160 in the pot when the action gets back to you so I think snatching a chance to flip multi-ways so early with a hand that is often crushed is just relying on luck to win. The push isn't +ev. It only becomes +ev if you think your oppos are morons..which James obv does...as usual.
