Title: If anyone here is Religious... Post by: totalise on December 23, 2008, 04:26:40 AM please please please say a prayer for my beautiful niece.
Shes currently in intensive care suffering from Encephalitis... if you dont know what that is, its a swelling of the brain. She is less than 3 years old. A few months ago she had a really bad case of chicken pox and it looks like the pox layed dormant and then attacked her brain last night... and origionally we thought it was meningitis, which as scarey as it sounds, isn't that bad assuming its the viral part, but the doctor gave the bad news when he told us it was Encephalitis. The doctor says that she probably isnt going to die, but there is a chance of some brain damage like deafness/lerning difficulty/behavioural problems which obviously isn't great, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. the results of the EEG scan were quite positive, she is still emitting strong electical waves from both sides of her brain... so its looking likely that if she will suffer from long term damage, it wont be as bad as it first appeared, fingers crossed. As for the MRI scan, because their hospital isn't that advanced, they would have needed to have scanned her, and then sent the results to Nottingham hospital for analysis.. and this is typical for smaller scale hospitals, but the expert that would have recieved the scans said to my sister-in-law that he would rather come to see my niece before seeing the scans so that he can make a much better analysis... and he actually demanded this as well... which is really great. Also the community police officers went round the childrens ward today and gave presents to all the kids in the ward, and sang christmas carols etc which was a lovely touch. I've had quite a lot of PM's about this so I figured I'd just respond to this rather than respond to all the PMs Mia spent a week and a half in hospital, half of it in intensive care, and slowly but surely she got better and better, until the 3/4th Jan when the doctor said that it would be in her best interests to go home. When she went home she couldn't walk, she couldn't speak, and her attentive processes were limited. My parents went down to see her on the 6th, and when they saw her, she was able to walk, but she couldn't speak, I phoned them up, and when she tried to say my name it came out like a growl , similar to an animal roaring, and it remained like that for a few days, so that was very worrying, but I spoke to my both my niece and my nieces mother tonight, and my niece was talking fluently, she sounded normal, her personality was almost like it always has been (ie, cheeky and saying "NO" everytime i said anything :) ), and her mother was saying that she is walking fine again, and that everything seems to be getting back to normal. The internet can never do justice to true emotions, but it really was a disgustingly hideous time, but it looks like she will make a full recovery and that things will be back to normal in a month or so. Im ecstatic that she is probably going to be okay, and I do thank you all for all the PMs/words of support. thanks again all :) Title: Re: If anyone here is Religious...
