Title: Appeal to those coming to the P4C Xmas bash

sponsored by sfgroup.

During a chat with Helen Graham of the Rainbow Children's Hospice in Loughborough (the Children's Hospice that covers the East Midlands and South Yorkshire) it emerged that we may be able to assist them on the 3rd December. I am posting her email below:

Dear Davey

Further to our conversation earlier today I have spoken to one of the
Play Specialists with regard to Christmas gifts.  We already have some
appeals in place to gather presents for the Christmas Party, but after
this event and throughout December the Play Specialists have to source
around 40 gifts for children and young people.  I was given the
following ideas for the type of gifts that would be suitable;  the Play
Specialist advised that often practical gifts make the most appropriate
presents.

Toiletry gift sets

CD Cases

Photo Albums

Towels

Fleecy Blankets

Hot Water Bottles / Microwavable Teddies etc

The Play Specialists also asked if possible that the emphasis could be
placed on presents for teenage boys.

I hope this gives you some ideas, please do let me know if you need any
further information.

Many thanks for your support.
Kind regards
Helen

What we have decided to do is use the event on the 3rd as a collection point for presents for these kids (some of whom this will be their last  Xmas).
The gifts do not have to be expensive - in fact many of the items can be purchased in pound shops. For our part Angie and I went into Primark yesterday and purchased 5 fleece blankets for £2 / each.

If you are not able to be at the event itself but know someone who is why not purchase a gift and give it to them to bring along.

If we collect more than is required by the Rainbow Children's hospice this is not a problem. We have, in the last year or so built very strong links with children's hospices up and down the country and will be able to place ALL the gifts that are donated.

I've just had a look at the microwavable teddy's and they are fantastic.

You can put them in the micro and even put them in the freezer, which is great if one of your little ones get a sprain, easier to put a teddy on their leg instead of a bag of peas  :D

Or when they are feeling unwell a warm teddy to snugle is just a fantastic idea.

Having a teenage boy of my own, all I can say is hellllllllllppppppppppppppppp....

All he wants is new mobile, new pushbike, money etc. etc. etc.  Nothing that can be bought from a pound shop.

I'll try and find something Davey and bring it with me.

My head is hurting already  lol

Trace no need to make your head hurt. Just things from the list will be great.

Many of the kids the hospice works with won't be wanting anything expensive - what they are going through alters their perspective on life. So many of them are very very ill and for many there will be no further Christmases. A little something to improve the quality of life, like some deodorant or a photo album for the families to fill will be an excellent gift.

Nice one Davey.

Just when I read

   I shuddered.

Teenage boys are a nightmare to buy for.  Lynx gift set it is then.  On that note tho, if they have a terminal illness, is it ok for them to use aerosols etc?

Angie, I got one of the Warmheart bears for my daughter a couple of weeks ago, she had been really poorly and it was a real comfort to her and was worth every penny. I noticed on the link they are about £15, I picked mine up from my local chemist, and it was only £10. May be worth people looking local before buying those online. Do you want these wrapped with the age and girl/boy attatched?

Trace, I can't see why they wouldn't be allowed aerosols, I have had a little experience with the terminally ill (cancer), and I know there was not a problem in that respect

pressies can be unwrapped or wrapped with a removable tag stating what the item is - I am sure we can chuck a few rolls of xmas wrap to help out.

thanks for the replies.
