Title: WTF is this? Hull moaning about Bennett making the CORRECT decision?
Post by: The Camel on January 01, 2009, 03:17:35 PM

Bennett incorrectly gives a pen. Gets advice there wasn't a handball, and overturns his decision. Does it matter how he comes to the correct decision?

Of course it matters, If the lino received information from a 3rd party via his earpiece from someone who had seen a replay, then its wrong.

Obv the truth will never come out, so we will never know.

The standard of refereeing is woeful in the premier league though, something needs to be done and quick.

It's fin, they get enough of these decisssions go against them, only fair that when they get on in their favour it gets through.

Linesman never signalled a penalty though did he? So by not signalling he was showing he disagreed.

World Cup final. I am 99% sure that neither the ref or the linesmen saw Zidane nut Matterazzi. Yet he was sent off. It was the correct decision.

Even if a third party told Bennett and the lino that there was no handball, that must be better than giving the wrong decision.

Yes its better, BUT only if that is the accepted rules of the game, At the moment it isnt and therefore should not be allowed.

I think 99% of footy fans want the game to accept the use of technology in some shape or form, but until that time comes, we have to rely on the Ref and his assistants.

why?

these rics are part of the game now, a huge part really, the scream ups the managers have about bad decissions against them has become a part of the game, sky and MOTD would go loopy if managers stopped and if you look at it from the managers point of view this is big bussiness, it's survival and having a moan about it has become an intrisic part of the game.

I'll admit it's a creative moan, but why not? how often do you see a dodgy pen go through without the ref consulting his linesman, it's only fair that when you finally get one in your favour and the ref gives it then goes off to and is influenced by someone else into overturning that decission you have a bit of a scream up about it, it's about consistency really no?

I thought it was Gareth Barry who told the ref that he'd made the wrong decision?

:dontask:

Doubt it's been 3rd party info to linesman as all 4 officials are miked up so any 3rd party info would go straight to the ref who wouldn't need to consult the lino.

From what I seen, lino clearly thought it was no penalty and rightly assisted the ref in making the correct decision.

it was the right decision not to give a pen, but the linesman looked as though he was getting advice ,maybe from someone using replay which is against the rules,a similar situation popped up in a American football game a few weeks back. ref was accused of looking up at the replay on video screens around the ground, again right decision but against the rules

I Disagree.

People say ref'ing now a days is crap, but the job of ref'ing a match isn't just down to one man, its down to 3 or even 4 if need be.

If one doesn't have a clear view or is unsure of what happened, and another does, they come to a collective agreement.

I think it was a very nice move by both with the way things have been lately.

Bennett givEs a pen. What a shocker!! If only he could overturn more daft decisions of his. Like his billions of other pens and red cards.
