Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Grier78 on January 14, 2009, 11:35:26 PM Could I? Yes. Would I? No. Should I? Not unless there is nothing else to eat.
Although the fewer dogs on this planet the better IMO. Cats FTW. Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Your probably right about western prejudice...its just a mentality thing- maybe coz I have a dog too I've tried other mental stuff like Alligator, Kangaroo, Ostrich, Shark, etc so not easily put off but just the thought of munching down on Rover makes me feel a queasy- think it would be even worse if it was like that programme and they are all running around in the street while your eating their brothers Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: snoopy1239 on January 14, 2009, 11:50:03 PM I could eat a dog, and would have no real problem doing so as a meat eater, but prefer not to because I feel they have more personality than most animals. I certainly wouldn't eat a dog if it was abused to the extent it was in the clip.
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Sark79 on January 15, 2009, 01:13:34 AM No. I wasted a few minutes recently reading Dale's blog after stumbling across it, in it he mentions eating whale meat. I couldn't eat dog or whale. I will stick with vegetables and pasta.
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Graham C on January 15, 2009, 01:17:57 AM meat is meat. I don't think I'd choose to eat it, but it wouldn't bother me. Perhaps a stew or something would be best.
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: suzanne on January 15, 2009, 02:33:33 AM I ate a stew once that was very tasty and didnt know till after it was cat meat.
Rabbit too is very nice but it kind of sticks in your throat when you have seen the poor bunny hopping around, then shot and hung by its feet to bleed. As the programme said we are brought up thinking its ok to eat beef/pork/chicken/lamb but why are these animals different from any others ? The tiny wee birds and sucking out their brains was a bit yukk tho Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: thetank on January 15, 2009, 03:24:07 AM I wouldn't eat a dog, a camel, a horse, an elephant or a donkey.
Anything else, deep fried on a stick, including monkeys. mmmmmm Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Longy on January 15, 2009, 08:34:27 AM I personally don't see the issue, as a meat eater if it tastes good i am all for it.
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: MKKfish on January 15, 2009, 10:02:54 AM Eat dog?......If you've ever had a Donar Kebab anywhere in the world then you have already done so.

Some chinese bloke ate a foetus http://z.about.com/d/urbanlegends/1/0/v/7/eating_babies1.jpg People often eat placentas after a child is born, meant to be very good for you apparently. I guess it was more common thousands of years ago when people had to hunt and forage for food. It would be a way for the mother to consume a lot of the nutrients she's just 'lost' in giving birth. Juts found this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/101944.stm A lot of people who eat meat would eat dog, horse, whale, monkey, ape, so why draw the line at human meat? Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Graham C on January 15, 2009, 11:53:58 AM I don't think I could eat placenta, but then I don't like squidgy/slippery things really

Cannabalism is a different issue imo, eating your own species is a step too far for me. Though there are circumstance like that South American plane crash in the 70's where needs must. I suppose i don't see the massive issue with dogs or any other animal, as i am not animal lover and feel no emotional attachment to any animal. Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Other species eat their young if times are hard and there's not enough food to go round. So it (somewhat perversely) helps to sustain their line. In similar circumstances I'm sure humans would have done the same. Of course as 'civilised' humans it's not something that would be good for society and so it's obviously a taboo. I'm not saying I'd be keen to do it, but I'm sure that if my plane crashed in the Andes and there was no other food other than some dead person in the ice, I'd see no problem eating them. Probably tastes like chicken. Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? They're just a bit yucky though aren't they? I not narrow it down to specific internal organs, I don't like things like that in general - I like my eggs cooked properly, none of this runny white bit. I couldn't be on I'm a Celeb GMOOH I guess I'd eat most things that were proper meat if I had too, obviously there are things I'd be first in the queue for and others I'd be at the back but in the queue nevertheless. Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: snoopy1239 on January 15, 2009, 09:14:50 PM Could anyone have eaten the still beating snake heart?
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: Graham C on January 15, 2009, 09:20:10 PM Not a chance, that's one of my slippery and squidgy things.
Title: Re: could you eat a Dog???? Post by: MANTIS01 on January 15, 2009, 10:28:29 PM I watched an episode of a programme called Road Kill once. I couldn't believe it. These dudes drove around country lanes looking for animals that had been squished by tractors or whatever, so they could cook up a dinner with the remains. WTF? Now you can imagine there was no spring chicken or prime lobster on those roads, it was all weasels and hedgehogs and such like. They eventually found a rotten badger carcass and turned it into a stir fry. They thought it was cool because "it didn't cost a penny". Man, I don't know how much those Basics chicken breasts are in Sainsbury's but they gotta be cheaper than the petrol used roaming the streets for badger meat. That programme was disgusting.
