Title: what to do? Post by: ACE2M on January 16, 2009, 09:11:11 PM what would you do if you suspect someone you know might have a drinking problem?
Title: Re: what to do? Post by: Longy on January 16, 2009, 10:13:56 PM Obv depends who it is and what your friendship/relationship is with them. Alcoholism runs in my family (Dad and Grandad), so I have always been aware of the problem. I think the first step is probably to have a word with them about it, but meh it is a tricky one.
Title: Re: what to do? Post by: doubleup on January 16, 2009, 10:29:41 PM I've known a couple of ppl who have killed themselves through drink, one a girl in her early thirties through liver disease. Probably best to try and get them along to their doctor to discuss their drinking. Title: Re: what to do? Post by: totalise on January 16, 2009, 10:31:26 PM what would you do if you suspect someone you know might have a drinking problem? Depends how much you care. If you dont care, just let them get on with it, if you dont really care but you want to satiate your own conscience to look like you do care, then you talk to him, try and get a councellor. If you really care with all your heart, you instantly stop them from drinking, force them to get help, and take a direct control of the situation, no matter the cost, either financially/emotionally, to you. The first step for you is to know which one of these it is. Title: Re: what to do? Post by: Swordpoker on January 17, 2009, 07:34:21 AM Alcoholics have a tendency for denial...so confronting head on might not be the best plan.
Ask him out for coffee one evening. When he suggests a pub instead tell him you've been drinking too much and you want to take a break from it. This opens up a conversation for YOUR problem which he will probably be much more willing to discuss. Title: Re: what to do? Post by: GlasgowBandit on January 17, 2009, 06:19:33 PM I'd go for a pint with them.
Title: Re: what to do? Post by: bolt pp on January 21, 2009, 03:05:17 PM I'd hang out with him a lot
alcoholics always need a drinking buddy, you probs barley have to put your hand in your pocket all week, also when he passes out you can have a dip up and he'll probs be none the wiser when he wakes up. |
