Title: PM for tikay
Post by: RED-DOG on January 17, 2009, 06:10:20 PM
I sent this to Tony as a private message, but then I realised that I should have just posted it on the open forum.

Today, the History Channel on Sky have been showing an incredible series of programmes called Auschwitz: the Nazis & the "Final Solution"

It comes in 6 one hour episodes, and is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive holocaust history lesson available today. It should be made compulsory viewing.

Amazingly, the whole series is available on YouTube in very manageable 10 minute pieces. You should try to watch one every now and then.

If your interested, they can be found here, all in sequence and numbered for your convenience.

Have you read 'If this is a man' by Primo Levi RED? It's a remarkable piece of writing from a man who survived Auschwitz. I couldn't recommend it highly enough, just an incredible story.

Been watching this today Tom.

Looks like they run it all again from 6am tomorrow.

Some amazing individual stories like the escapees who broke into the store and dressed as German guards to make their escape.

The one story that really stuck on me was where the German guard saved the life of the sister of one of the detainees he had a shine for but could do nothing for her 2 children.

I cannot comprehend the torture of the decision of that lady as to whether she allows herself to be saved or dies with her kids.

Awesome viewing.

Geo

Ive been to Auschwitz when i was younger, went along with my mum and Dad.

I was about 14 years old and it was frightening!

They still have everything from the Prisoners, Toothbrushes/shoes/spoons/even their head hair! They let you into the sleeping quarters, and Gas chamber's also.

Some fuckin Knob-end twat that was on one of the tours, pulled away the Cage Guarding the stuff when the tour person wasn't looking, to steal one of the spoons for a Souveniur!!!
