Jankovic, Jelena 5/1 Dementieva, Elena 8/1 Safina, Dinara 10/1 Ivanovic, Ana 12/1 Azarenka, Victoria 25/1 Wozniacki, Carolina 33/1 Zvonareva, Vera 33/1 Kuznetsova, Svetlana 40/1 Radwanska, Agnieszka 80/1 Kvitova, Petra 100/1 Cibulkova, Dominika 125/1 Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: ACE2M on January 19, 2009, 01:19:50 PM i'm on safina and djokovic.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Rooky9 on January 19, 2009, 04:44:58 PM Murray as fav is wrong for me. He has the form but in the same way as Tiger attacks the majors in gold I think rafa and federer will step it up here. Beating both in the same grand slam is a huge ask. Surely too big for a Brit/scot (depending on outcome obviously!)

Well saved imo nh wp Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Horneris on January 19, 2009, 05:57:50 PM ok, ill put this in here aswell:
Federer is extremly opposable on current form, he has looked flat in the last few months, its worrying. Djokovic has been awful so far this season and was beaten comfortably by Gulbis a couple of weeks ago so i couldnt back him atm. Nadal is my favourite player but has started badly this season going down without much fight against Monfils, and he hasnt seemed to hit top form again yet since his injury at the back end of the next year. If you get the chance to see him in the early rounds and appears to be close to top form jam on the 4/1 while you can. Otherwise, id leave it. Murray is the clear form pick, but isnt for me at 11/4. He hasn't shown enough for me so far in Grand Slams/when it matters yet. I also think he will be stronger in the US Open. I think he could make the final but I'd have him at closer to 4/1. I'd be tempted to advise a bet on Nalbandian. He won the ATP tournament last week so his price isnt overly attractive, but hes the one player outside of the top 4 that could beat anyone on his day, and at 33/1 on Betfair i think its worth taking a chance that he is "on an on day" when it matters. He beat Murray in straight sets towards the end of last season and has beaten Federer on many previous occasions. The only big worry is his recent record in grand slams, where although making the latter rounds, has been comprehensively beaten by Dancevic, Monfils and Ferrero. Can be brilliant, can be awful. I hope he is brilliant. Other outsiders; Monfils has a decent draw and as previously stated has beaten Nadal already this year but i wouldnt rely on him to repeat this in the quarter finals of a grand slam where he will meet the Spaniard. Del Potro is interesting, but i don't believe hes quite good enough just yet. Roddick doesnt quite have the top top quality in the latter stages anymore when the ball is in play. Simon beat both Federer and Nadal last season but there is an argument to be had that he is better on a Indoor Hard Court. I also don't think he'll prove to be the same force this season. 0.25pts win Nalbandian @ 33/1. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: mondatoo on January 19, 2009, 06:04:32 PM Not to clued up on betting on betfair what is 0.25points thing, cheers
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Horneris on January 19, 2009, 06:06:48 PM I'll put my bets in this thread each day.
I'm 9.63pts up so far for the new Tennis season from the ATP tournaments. Yesterday was a losing start tho to the Aussie Open; Mon Jan 19th. 3pts Kohlscreiber to beat Querrey @ 4/5 (Sporting Bet). Won/2-1 (Querrey Rtrd) + 2.4 2.5pts Dent to beat Delic @ Evs (Stan James/Direct). Lost/2-3 = -2.5 Running Total = -0.1pts Ill update tonights bets in a bit. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Horneris on January 19, 2009, 06:10:49 PM Not to clued up on betting on betfair what is 0.25points thing, cheers The Camel is using it too on his Betting thread. If you used a base of a point as £50 for example, 2pts = £100, 0.5pts = £25, 0.25 = £12.50. I think its a better way of keeping track. You set how much 1pt is to you, depending on how big you bet. It might be £1, it might be £100. But it remains the same throughout. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: TheChipPrince on January 19, 2009, 06:11:29 PM Its basically a % of your bankroll, so for example Horneris is minted so say his roll is £100, then he's wagering 25p on Nalbandian to win it...
But a roll can also, say, be 50 points, its depends how cautious/crazy you are, exactly the same as a poker roll would work with buying into tourneys... Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: mondatoo on January 19, 2009, 06:20:04 PM Ahh I see, thanks

If he gets through i will probably be against him in the next round too. I watched his match against Bennetau in the Sydney ATP, and even tho Bennetau was struggling because of the heat he almost won it, and they were both making error after error after error. Gonzalez is a bit of a mug aswell but is decent in matches which turn into 4 or 5 sets slog and i fancy him to win it. 0.5pts Malisse to beat Roddick @ 7.4 (Betfair) People will be questioning my sanity here slightly, Roddick is 7-0 up on the Head to Head. But Xavier still has it, he's always performed well in Grand Slams, and he took Llodra apart in the 1st round. I just think the 7.4 available on Betfair is far too big. Roddick isnt all that. Don't fancy much today, theres a lot of very short priced favourites. Tomorrow looks better and im already involved in one or two. I might get involved in the handicap markets tonight; Chardy + 8.5 @ 9/10 with Boyles looks decent against Djokovic. Djokovic is not in rip roaring top form, and all Chardy would need to take that is 3-6,3-6,4-6 and hes no mug. Only putting up match betting tips on this thread tho. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 21, 2009, 09:47:20 AM Malisse wins the first set 6-4

Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 21, 2009, 11:33:07 AM Looks like it is all over now, Roddick broke back and won the tie break easily and now has 2 breaks in the 4th set.

No upsets so far so that makes for some really good matches in the next couple of rounds. yeah, Tennis (aswell as Racing) is my thing. A lot of the time the smaller tournament are easier to find winners, such as The Challenger Tourns and ATP tournament, but thought id have a go in the 1st Grand Slam of the year and going ok so far. The kid who sits next to me at work is very good on the tennis too, and i often get decent opinions from him. I'm working a lot of 2.30-10 shifts atm, so can stay up till like 7 to watch the tennis and sleep 7-1.30. Murrays gona be on at like 4.30 tonight i think. Not part of my P/L things obv. Got a £100 double with Simon & Over 38.5 games in the Blake v Tsonga match. Can defo see Blake nicking a set and lots of service holds. Rly would like this to come in. Going for Under 32.5 games in the Nadal match, i think he will win something like 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. And tempted to back Murray to win 3-1 in sets, because Verdy is in decent form and i can see him nicking at least one set. Looking forward to these, lets gogogogogogo Andy & Rafa! Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Horneris on January 26, 2009, 08:09:52 AM GG Murray.

Verdasco played well - Murray wasnt at this best and I think Simon could stop Nadal. (18/1.... 3-2 Simon) My hope is Tsonga finally gives up on his back and Verdasco gets a tired Simon in the Semi. On the other side Roddick has stepped up his game is serving well and seems focussed. Del Potro could upset Federer in a close one. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Blatch on January 27, 2009, 07:02:33 AM backed Roddick during that game at 2/5 when Dr advises Djoko to pull out, 4 games later he retires

I havent done any bets just for the sake of betting like i used to, If no value comes into play i just have to have no bets and be happy with my 8.9pts profit. I'm pretty sure Tsonga will beat Verdy tonight and was going to put him up as a bet @ 8/13. But the highest he ever reached was 4/7, and i have to stick with my approach in taking what i believe is a decent price in the selections i fancy. He is looking in ominous form and is capable of blowing Simon off court if he gets of to a quick start. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Colchester Kev on January 28, 2009, 08:53:27 AM Got up early today to watch this ... Nadal is a machine on these courts, and is great to watch.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 28, 2009, 11:26:11 AM Well, glad that is over - a bit to close for comfort in a couple of places!
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Colchester Kev on January 28, 2009, 11:27:12 AM yeah, simon played well ... 3-0 flattered Nadal tbh.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Numpty Dumpty on January 30, 2009, 12:32:32 AM would love to see verdasco take it down.
... not likely though Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 30, 2009, 10:27:56 AM The Verdasco v Nadal game is looking like a classic - although i think Nadal will come through and win it, Verdasco taking the first set is good for the neutral.
Just backed Nadal @ 1.62 when he lost the first set. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: CrestOfaWave on January 30, 2009, 11:48:11 AM go go go Verdasco.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 30, 2009, 12:51:28 PM Nadal is just awesome - some of his play defies belief!
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Matt50 on January 30, 2009, 01:13:41 PM Fair play to Verdasco - thought he was out on his feet, but has raised his game immensely.
2 sets all - what a classic. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: CrestOfaWave on January 30, 2009, 01:13:56 PM what a game......
Come on Fernando.... (not the Red Sh&$e one).... Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: CrestOfaWave on January 30, 2009, 01:16:17 PM 21 winners to Nadals 8 in that 4th set - awesome tennis.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: rossfourfive on January 30, 2009, 01:55:40 PM This is superb. 10-8 final set please - not concerned who to.
Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: rossfourfive on January 30, 2009, 02:08:49 PM What a finish. Can't wait for the final.

wp Nadal. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: CrestOfaWave on January 30, 2009, 02:10:20 PM gutted what a way to finish. Verdasco pushed him all the way.
great game... Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Horneris on January 30, 2009, 02:15:38 PM Excellent game.
Had £300 on Nadal @ 1.61 after going 1-0 down; Verdy had me sweating, played excellently, like a new man But anyone who serves 2 double faults in that last game at the very top level deserves to lose imo. Lost his bottle when it mattered most. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: CrestOfaWave on January 30, 2009, 02:33:39 PM Excellent game. Lost his bottle when it mattered most. Yeah I agree - getting down to love - 40 on his serve put pressure on himself. He saved 2 match points then rushed his 2nd serve. Something you see club players doing on key points. He has too many flaws in his game to challenge the top 3 but he has improved immensely from 2008. gg wp gl - Federer will now have a tired Nadal in the final with an extra days rest up his sleeve. Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: Numpty Dumpty on January 30, 2009, 03:47:22 PM would love to see verdasco take it down. ... not likely though gutted.. so close Title: Re: Australian Open 2009 Post by: bolt pp on February 01, 2009, 11:31:24 AM gogogogogogogogogogogo fed!
