Title: Sigh! Post by: GlasgowBandit on January 20, 2009, 08:39:01 PM First hand. We calling here? I'm thinkng there ara a few hands he could have that beat me but I think its most likely he has an 8 now my problem is it could be T8 wit 69 or someting like that. I would expect TTXX to re-raise pre unless its something like TT23 maybey they have decided to limp their set hoping to hit the set. Is best play to check/call river bet?

2) refer to 1 I also think your pre/flop play is pretty ambitious. Saying all that, its pleeasing to see a post from you that doesn't entail you getting your stack in with the stone cold nuts and getting outdrawn. he has 10's full or 3's full about 95% of the time here, his flop bet/turn check/river jam line is almost a g'teed cert on that. Not quite sure why you think TTxx would re-raise pre either to be honest. TTxx is a pretty shite hand because even when u do flop ur set you are gonna be facing a pretty big wrap draw a high % of the time when u get the money in! Title: Re: Sigh! Title: Re: Sigh! Post by: EvilPie on January 21, 2009, 01:12:12 AM Unless it's TTAK ds he shouldn't be reraising pre. Pairs are generally not great unless they are kings or aces with some connecting cards with them.
Don't play hands like these oop. Don't be calling to hit a flush draw when it's not going to be the nuts if it hits particularly if you're oop. There's so many hands that he gets involved with that have you smashed here that you can't ever call. He could've been calling with 8, 9, T, x for example and just got lucky. Just pass and learn from the mistake. Title: Re: Sigh! Post by: GlasgowBandit on January 21, 2009, 05:39:11 AM I agree pre flop was quite ambitious but ATr looked nice :-) Sometimes playing these spanner type hands can be quite profitable if you can play later streets. Obviously the paired board creates a big problem becuase now there are a whole host of hands that beat me. And hand holding an 8 is in good shaps assuming he has a kicker that is paired as well.
With regards to my initial thoughts on the hand and the comment about the TT23 or some other nonchelant hand like that I agree that this sort of holding is poor but at the lower levels its not uncommon to see players call any bet with a pair in the hole. Given that he checks the turn behind it is plausible that the 10 has strengthened his hand. And evene if he has a 9TJQ holding or an 8TJ7 or the likes it gives him more outs to hit. I did call in the end, tanked for a bit as I thought the flush may be good - butchered indeed. I was shown AJ33 so my line wasn't too far out from what players are calling with at this level. But in agreement I totally minced it up Title: Re: Sigh! Post by: EvilPie on January 21, 2009, 02:36:03 PM The only hand you can possibly beat here is a complete bluff and at this level you won't get anyone good enough to do that.
When he raises all in on the river you've got to ask what he can possibly have? Any hand that you're beating flat calls. A very good player may recognise that you're on a flush and may bluff so you could possibly make the call there but that would be a huge play play on both of your parts, him for recognising that you should pass and you for recognising that he's good enough to put you on a flush and use his position to bluff you off the pot. |
