Title: Vegas Trip
Post by: ITT-Pat on January 27, 2009, 03:13:11 AM
Ok I won a trip for 2 to Vegas worth £2500. Me and a couple of mates were planing on going to Vegas for a month in July anyway, so I decided that I'd use it then and they could split the other half of the prize(eg friend #1 books his own trip and friend #2 pays him for half of it)

About a month has I've now found out that the prize is a trip for 2 for one week and it cant be altered in any way. I asked would it be possible for them to give me 1 weeks accomodation but delay the return flight by 3 weeks or could they give me 3 flights to Vegas and no acomodation but they said that they purchased these packages in bulk and although they're worth £2500 they only cost them £1500. So the best they could offer me was £1500 in cash.

It seems that taking the cash is handiest but I feel I'm losing out, so what I'm asking is would it be bad form if I:

A) Took the £1500 and kept it for myself

or

B) Went on a week long trip to Vegas in say April as well our planned one in July (the problem with this option being that neither of them may even be able to afford this, so I might have to invite someone else)

Take the 1 week's accommodation and just don't turn up for the flight home.

Book your own return flight and 2 extra week's accommodation.

Easy.

I'd think carefully about the cash option though because you can probably get some thing for less than £1500 and just make your mates pay for themselves. You were going anyway right so why give it away?

If you split it you're getting £1250. If you take the cash you're £250 better off.

Last time I changed my flight from vegas I was charged $100, I went to the airport the day before I was due to fly and they just did it for me. It was a Virgin flight and there was no hassle, you might want to try it (but don't rely on it) and be prepared to buy another flight home if needed.

after the first 3 sentances i was sure this was a grim. A little disappointed that it wasn't.

It could still develop.

Just needs someone to come on and offer £1600 for it and see what happens next.

Flight to Vegas on virgin for 2 = £660
Average strip accom for a week =£500
A £1600 grim                = Priceless.

Take the £1500, book the above for yourself and burn the £340 change as recklessly as you possible can whilst out there imo.
