Title: Did I Do Anything Wrong here? Post by: Bigfella on February 25, 2009, 08:10:49 PM This hand has been playing on my mind a bit.
Last 18 of a 200 people live tourney. I'm sat on about 65k which is about average. Blinds getting high at 3,000/6,000 with a 500 ante. I'm dealt Aspades Jd three to the left of the big blind and raise to 18k. A player 3 to my left moves all in and has me covered. I now have about 47k left and elect to fold as I'm certain i'm behind. All fairly standard, but would appreciate your expert views on: 1. I'm putting in over 25% of my stack here and giving it up. By folding I'm now becoming short stacked so should I call in the hope of winning the hand and giving myself a real chance to win the tourney. 2. If I'm gonna fold to a reraise all in, should I have bet in the first place. 3. Is AJ a hand to be dumped here or was my bet size wrong? If you're coming in for a raise here are you committed to going all the way with the hand regardless? Cheers. Title: Re: Did I Do Anything Wrong here? Post by: kukushkin88 on February 25, 2009, 08:23:54 PM You don't have enough chips to raise/fold, once you have raised though you have to call. The correct play would be to shove preflop.
Title: Re: Did I Do Anything Wrong here? Post by: Longy on February 25, 2009, 08:26:08 PM Just shove preflop, it is +ev against any calling range at these blinds.
In general you should be setting yourself a bb (or M) number where you stop doing anything but shove or fold, unless you are trying to induce a raise with qq+. I would suggest 12bbs as a good cutoff point. Title: Re: Did I Do Anything Wrong here? Post by: boldie on February 25, 2009, 08:49:19 PM if you don't shove pre.. raise less. 15k is as good as 18.

Getting 2 to 1 you can't really pass once you've raised, shoving looks best, especially considering the ante's in play. With a slightly deeper stack, a raise to 15/16k would be plenty... FWIW you could be racing a good amount of the time here with the blinds as they are Title: Re: Did I Do Anything Wrong here? Post by: Bigfella on February 25, 2009, 09:59:03 PM Thanks guys I tend to agree my play was not right. Leaving myself with an m of 4 is not good!!, but I still felt a double up after laying it down could get me back into contention. I took a while to lay it down as I was debating to myself if I could afford the fold, and in the heat of the moment decided to fold, but that's poker and I'll put that one in the memory bank for next time.
