Title: Champions League - Last 16 second Legs
Post by: kinboshi on March 10, 2009, 06:51:18 PM
Liverpool v Real - was worried earlier today with doubts over Torres and Arbeloa, etc.  But the team's been announced and it's almost the best 11:

Team: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Alonso, Mascherano, Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel, Torres.

So no excuses.

Can't do that really.  But I do expect we'll try and counter them.  Saying that, we have gone for the jugular early on in some games, and an early goal for us would make it a much more comfortable night.

Kin, are you saying Riera in for Babel would be the best starting XI

i think Insua isnt far away from becoming first choice at left-back

I assume Spurs play tomorrow

Real Madrid to have more corners with a +1 start  5/4

Liverpool don't often have many corners or attack much in Europe. Real must win and often get a few corners. I'd fancy this with -1 never mind a start !!

Yes, I think Riera adds more, although Babel 'should' - tonight would be a good night for him to perform.

Insua will be a quality left-back, but Aurelio is a quality player (as long as he can avoid injury).

I'd expect 3/4 more for Real but as with any cup tie it depeends who has to chase the game for the longest time.

The penalty obviously, and the petty Mascherano booking means he is suspended, or will that get overturned ?

In modern times, i would have thought so. Back in 50's/60's of the European cup i reckon it might not be.

Assistant signalled for the penalty - he had a better view than the ref.  I'm with you on the Mascherano booking, it can't be for him kicking the ball away as it was right on the whistle.  But other than that the ref's done well.

Best i've seen Liverpool play in a long time. Could have won by more. No problems with the ref for me but i was surprised Real finished with 11 men.
Pepe and Cannavaro are poor*. Picking Diarra over Huntelaar to play in the Champions League was also a poor decision.

*stronger words are more appropriate but sometimes i don't feel like swearing.

I was reading something, and apparently Torres pinned a copy of 'Marca' on the dressing room wall and about which he said "punish them for their lack of disrespect".

It seemed to do the trick

Yeah especially with a good chance that it will be another all English final.
