Title: Cheltenham Festival Day 3
Post by: Karabiner on March 12, 2009, 10:38:50 AM
Just got a couple of my ante-post fancies running today.

I'm on Fair Along in the World Hurdle @ 25/1 ew, and Imperial Commander in the Ryanair @ 10/1.

Punchestowns ew at 7/2.

They will need an act of Parliament to keep this out of the frame.. With all the big bookies going 1/4 the odds a place, it is nearly a bet for nothing and is the only one who can give Kasbah Bliss a race imo.

Can someone please explain the difference between putting a bet on punchstowns to place or backing it ew ?? Thanks

Post by: chrisbruce on March 12, 2009, 11:38:35 AM
A place bet is for a horse to be placed in a race. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.
If a race is 'paying' 1st 2nd and 3rd places. The bet will pay the same amount if the horse finishes in any of those places.
depending on the number of runners a bookmaker may pay the top 2, 3, 4 or even 5.
Place odds are normally 1/4 or 1/5 of the win odds

An E/W bet is 2 bets. half the money goes on a 'Win' only bet and half the money goes on a place bet.
If the horse 'wins' both bets will be paid.
If the horse places 2nd, 3rd etc only the place bet will be paid.

What odds would we need to make a small profit on the EW bet?

Had both winners so far, but having backed 5 (mostly big big prices) in each race am not up shedloads.

Fancy Something Wells and Le Burf in the 4.00 (Festival Plate), both available at 33s first 5 places with some bookies.

GET ON!

I run bad soooooooooo bad.

£3 yankee in for £33

Race 1 Crescent Island  3rd was on at 28/1
Race 2 Kayf Aramis 1st 16/1 was on at 25/1
Race 3 Schindlers Hunt  3rd 22/1 was on at 18/1
Race 3 Punchestowns  2nd 10/3 was on at 7/2

I normally do lucky 15's and punt them e/w but for some random reason at this years cheltenham I have been backing to win, even my value punts.

Fucking betfred are doing 4 x the odds for 1 winner on a lucky 15 at c/ham.  Also woulda been a sweet return on the e/w if I had just stuck to my £1 e/w lucky 15.
