Title: Reverse sheep game part V
Post by: amcgrath1uk on March 16, 2009, 02:25:22 AM
Rules

There are 11 questions. PM me your answers by Wednesday 18th March at 9pm GMT, with each answer on a differing line with a corresponding question number.

Your score for each question is number of people who give the same correct answer. So you want to go for answers that you think will be less commonly given. Levelling commonly happens. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score.

You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers.  Those who do will be spotted by the other contestants and no doubt pointed out. Such villains will have it on their conscience and will have to devise a way of purging their sins. (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=40356.msg907376#msg907376)

If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the sheep score + one half the number of distinct correct answers given, rounded up.

You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and score a 0 for that question.

Any questions, post in this thread. Don’t expect a straight answer.

I will be conducting the answers on Thursday 19th March starting at 8pm.

Any disputes must be seconded, and must provide linkage for my approval. My decision will be final.

All dependent on the severity/ farcicalness of the objection etc..

Will be taking from previous RS games..

Can't have both. Previously rule was the 2 or 1 point penalty for a failed objection. If you want a a penalty dependant on farce, that's different. We need to know!

The 2/1 penalty would be applied in 99% of cases, utter farcical objections may be penalised more severly

There's no pedantry with regards to the rules.  Just blatant disregard for (in)correctness on a farcical scale.

Rules are pretty clear IMO. Usual penalties apply unless its farcical. Objections won MAY get points back. Then again, they MIGHT not. It depends on the quality of the objection & linkage provided.

I agree it wasn't much but Claw sent me 12c and Joobie sent me 2c, I wanted to be the one who broke the records and sent the biggest bribe so far. Spend it wisely.

PS I blame the credit crunch.

On a scale of 1-0, how sad does that make me?

I've just sent mine and then Googled. Main one I worried about was the Mario Kart one (I play with the kids on the Wii version, but it's been a while), but I'd remembered it correctly. And given my FAIL in the top 15 selling books in Sheep I (I still haven't had a reply from Bloomsbury, miserable sods), I wasn't sure about the album one, but looks like I scraped that one too. I suspect lots of sheep though. Still not decided what level I should be thinking on...

LOL. Me too. Only without the running bit :).

... Main one I worried about was the Mario Kart one (I play with the kids on the Wii version, but it's been a while), but I'd remembered it correctly. ...

I've never played it at all, so that made for an easy pass.

I went for a few obvious answers for some of the others to make sure I didn't get a fail, so I'm expecting a few sheep because of that.

Just seen Jane on the kids nintendo playing Mario Kart .... is this cheating Mr quiz master ??

when I say playing, I actually mean looking at the tracks before returning the DS to the kids.

It would be classed as cheating, if it also counted last week when you tried to look through all my Stephen King books (then still got it wrong!!! LOLOLOL)

Which just goes to prove that I didnt cheat !!

Did you, or did you not try to change your answer when I laughed my head off, after you had already sent your answers in?!

Where's Kinboshi?
anyone got any advice on how to achieve sucess in tonights APAT clickfest.

Have your name, card number, address and phone number typed up beforehand in a notepad document so you just have to copy and paste.

This and also make sure you know the security password for your card if you have that set up.  Otherwise that can slow you down.  Being able to touch-type is also useful.

I don't think tonight will sell out that quickly though to be honest.  There are a lot more seats available than for the usual Nationals.

Fails should be 11 points, no? Sheep score = 6, + half of ten distinct correct answers.

I'm not actually playing, but I didn't manage to get an objection through last week, so I thought I'd try this week instead.

Order of entry cos thats how Excel's doing it, then highest position after the previous question...eg Tighty scored more points than myself or Andrew in Q1 so he is 3rd - it's just the way Excel does it when I highlight names and total score.

To clarify, a dominion is basically what Canada was until the 1980's, so if you say it's part of the Empire then it was part of the Empire until about 20 years ago.

Main article: American Revolution
During the 1760s and 1770s, relations between the Thirteen Colonies and Britain became increasingly strained, primarily because of resentment of the British Parliament's attempts to govern and tax American colonists without their consent,[41] summarised at the time by the slogan "No taxation without representation". Disagreement over the American colonists' guaranteed Rights as Englishmen turned to violence and, in 1775, the American War of Independence began. The following year, the colonists declared the independence of the United States and, with assistance from France, Spain and the Netherlands would go on to win the war in 1783.

Rhodesia was the name adopted when the formerly British colony of Southern Rhodesia declared itself independent (Unilateral Declaration of Independence) on 11 November 1965. The name was also used with the establishment of Zimbabwe Rhodesia in 1979. After a brief return to colonial status as Southern Rhodesia from 1979 to 1980, the country became the independent nation of Zimbabwe in April 1980.

or entirely up to the new quizmaster?

I tried to say that I needed a week to prepare the second Sheep Quiz, but I was bullied into putting up the quiz the following day.

So not entirely up to the new quizmaster no.

A week ffs?

A couple of days at most. AndrewT should be able to do it within a couple of hours.

We do know that our new quizmaster's questions are likely to be extremely obscure, right?

Which means results day will be more fun :)

hopefully not.  The spirit of the reverse sheep game is that the questions are supposed to be 'easy' to answer correctly, the skill being in giving a different answer to most.  The game does seem to be evolving somewhat though, but hopefully it won't go so far that people are excluded from taking part as the questions are too difficult.

my point exactly i had 3 minutes to read through the questions and get my answers
any other quiz i could of done that
this quiz i couldnt and as i didn have time to cheat i choose some silly answers
pity they werent taken in the way they were intended
although i now have the blonde record high score that will be hard to beat

Holiday from Saturday evening please ensure questions are up with enough time for me to answer before I go.

The thought of laying on the beech without having entered the Non Bloggers quiz would just ruin my holiday.

I actually thought this quiz was okay in terms of the level of difficulty.

A few questions which might catch a few people out are quite good, but the majority of the questions weren't hard questions, some people might not necessarily be familiar with the subject and find them hard though.

For example: the rugby question - easy question unless you don't know anything about rugby, Mario kart question - really easy question, if you've played it.

The only evolution I don't like is Roberts introduction of having to have a seconder to an objection. As Kinboshi has pointed out, there's no real reason for anyone to do this. It only gets done if someone wants their own objection seconded or they don't care about winning.

I don't think any Quiz Master can assume they won't make a mistake, so I think it's wrong to put any obstacle in the way of people making appeals. After all, the QM has the final say - so if they want to stick to their guns they can do.

Exactly.

With a good question, everyone should be able to give a correct answer. Obviously, these popular correct answers should be high-scoring, so more obscure answers would yield fewer points, but run the risk of becoming fails (and so be super-high scoring)

Very easy questions also allow levelling battles as people try to avoid the 'common' answers, meaning an obscure answer can become a sheep, whilst the obvious answer gets ignored (like no one picking Argentina as a South American country).

Then there are questions which deliberately have some sort of ambiguity in them, which will lead to be pleasant and civil debate as to which answers are correct.

i will revert back to all objections will be listened to and more than likely ignored
i will also allow people to google as no matter what the QM says it wont stop people

Yeah, I'm killing this rule. Leads to not many actual objections, which is no fun at all. I think a previous QM must have been running scared.

The idea behind the objection rule was not just to stop hopeless objections but to have a chance to affect the scoring when things were close at the top, it didn't happen. Happy I tried it but not going to cry if it goes. This game is pretty good (wp dino) and it can evolve even more. Changes of rules keeps it fresh.
