Tragic accident.

Thankfully it was only a cargo plane so only 2 lives lost.

Looking at the accident this could just as easily have been a fully loaded passenger plane with the loss of hundreds.

Will be interesting to see the full investigation as to how it happened.

Yes, it's just dreadful. There is something about aeroplane crashes which brings out the ghoul in all of us, I think.

Everytime there is a 'Plane crash, or incident, I go to a Forum caled PPRuNe - "Professional Pilots Rumour Network". Flushy put me onto it a few years ago, & it's a wonderful place.

All the Media get their "stories" by going oto PPruNe. After the Heathrow 777 jobbie, the PPRuNe Forum nearly crashed - I think there were nearly 10,000 viewing it at one time, ditto the Hudson River splashdown..

And, the loss of live notwithstanding, the way the story unfolds on PPRuNe is like reading a thriller, it starts with "reports are coming in", then it gradually unfolds. You soon get to see who speaks with authority - the questions come from hacks & amateurs, & the answers from Pilots, AirCrew, & ATC-ers. For the Hudson "crash", they uploaded a software gizmo which tracked the Flight Path of all planes leaving JFK, & you could clearly see the Hudson 'plane flightpath, until, spookily, it suddenly disappeared. And they often have Cockpit tx to & from ATC, etc. It's riveting stuff. For geeks, that is.

For the Fex Ex Crash, the Thread is here.....

i know a few guys (pilots) who fly for fedex out of Memphis. Flying cargo is definitely at the lower end of the glamour scale

Such a tragedy.

On the flying subject, when my son goes on his next flying lesson with the ATC he has said he will get to do areobatics on his 2nd lesson WOW.

His aim is to get a pilots certificate (I think) after completeing the course what will this entitle him to do?
