Title: Firefox help please!
Post by: The Camel on March 24, 2009, 10:10:32 PM
It's only a little problem, but it's driving me mad because I can't find the solution.

I have my passwords saved in the browser.

I decided to change all my passwords, but I can't find where to reset the passwords in Firefox.

Anyone know where to look?

Tools, Options, Security

You should really be using the Google Chrome thread :D.

Tools > Options > Security - that gives you the screen where you can click to access all your saved passwords.  You can't just change them in that screen though, you have to go to each site the passwords are saved for and change them there.  Unless you are using an add-on or different program to manage your passwords?

If you have set a 'master password' you will need to use this to be able to see all the saved passwords.  Anyone using firefox should use the master password, otherwise all the passwords that are stored are saved in a plain text file and someone who gains access to your machine via a worm for example, would be able to get to them all.

Hmmm. Thanks for that.

Can't see where to change individual passwords on that screen though..?

You can't.  That's just like a phone book of people's names and numbers (instead it shows your username and password for a site).  You can't just change a number in your phonebook without changing the number of the phone.  Sorry, that's a crap analogy - but it's all i could think of.

For example, you have a password to log into the blonde forum.  You can see that password from that screen.  But you can't change it there - you have to go to the blonde forum and change it on there.  Same for any other site.

Unless I've misunderstood what you want to do.

I've changed the password for the site, but on that screen it still shows the old password.. I just tried deleting it from the saved passwords list..

But when I went to the site it didn't offer to resave the password.

OK - I get you.

If you delete it from the saved list, and close your browser and then go back to the site, it should ask if you want to save the new password.  Which site is it, it might be the site that's the problem?

It's Betfair.

I did all you said, and it still didn't offer to save the new password!

It might be something to do with the site not allowing you to save the password (if they've changed the site it might have let you save it before but not now).  A lot of banking or money-related sites will do this.  There is a work around, but it's fairly complex.

This explains it here (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/08/16/fix-firefox-does-not-save-store-or-remember-password-on-some-sites-permanently-for-always-auto-complete/)

But it looks fairly complicated if you don't know what you're doing!

I didn't realise Liverpool fans were so helpful.

Thanks Kin.
