Title: Aintree
Post by: Matt50 on April 02, 2009, 10:38:29 AM
The Aintree meeting starts today, culminating in the Grand National on Saturday.

Anyone got any decent tips/thoughts on the days racing?

Yep, but I'd be hung, drawn and quartered by a midget if I spilled.  Good luck all, whatever your picks are!

I am all over the favourites today.....

2.00 Big Bucks - lovely winner for me at Cheltenham

2.35 Walkon - beat Starluck at Cheltenham and Hebridean is unproven

3.10 Denman - got to be the bet of the day for me

good luck

I've gone for Hills of Aran E/W in the 2.00

Denman looks to be the bet of the day for me later on though.

Was on Might Man ew at 11/2 because he's won me £ in the past.
Nice ride by ruby though.
On Walkon and Denman too.

Nice one Chris - hope you make it 3 out of 3 as i am on Denman big as well.

Walkon cost me loads at cheltenham so kept away from him today (didnt have a bet that race), but now wish i had stuck with him  :'(

Denman will lose.
Life just doesn't make this many people happy. 3 favouritres in a row? Won't happen.
I'm already resigned to losing my money.

Drifting on the exchanges which is very strange?????

Normally with 2 favs winning the money once again goes down on the favorite???

very strange....

Denman fell at the last when challenging (and admittedly struggling to pass) Madison du berlais..Denman didn't look very comfortable all race but Thomas shouldn't have driven him into the fence like this..that was awful

We must have been watching different races in that case.

Denman and Madison du Berlais were racing stride for stride into the 2nd last in the race that i was watching, Madison stood off and jumped it half a stride early as did Denman but MDB cleared the fence whereas Denman landed on it and fell cutting his off-fore in the process. I don't think the jockey did anything wrong but there again I hadn't backed anything in the race.

I agree with this. Denman was very tired. No blame on Thomas imo.

obv correct with regards to the second last.

Disagree with the reason why he fell. Doubt he would have beaten Madison obv as he wasn't going well at all so the result doesn't change.

If anyones thinking of backing any horse EW in the National. dont bet at William Hills, Ladbrokes or Corals, they are only paying out if your horse finishes in the first 4.  other bookmakers will pay you out if your horse finishes in the first 5. Why should the big high street chains offer an incentive on National day ... there will be queues in every bookies up and down the country as every mug/housewife/once a year flutter person, has their few bets.

Those sort of people wouldnt have a scooby about shopping around for a bit of extra value... Bookies want plenty of volume and bets spread right across the field.

i can understand a lot of punters who only ever have a bet on the national  just going to there nearest bookie and not be bothered, a few will be very disappointed
when there horse is 5 or 6Th, very few internet punters  with a few accounts be betting with, hills ,corals or ladbrokes, very rare i back with them myself,

love the interview with the owner. her horse wins the national at 100/1 and it turns out she was watching the wrong horse for half the race

My neighbour Siobhan called in about 2 races ago.  We've been sat having the old glass of wine whilst watching the races.

15 minutes before the off, a bit tipsy, she saw the list up and said "Put a fiver on Mon Mone".

"Ummmm, Siobhan, the horse is 100/1.  Maybe 2.50 each way would be a better idea because there's every chance it'll place, but sweet feck all chance it'll win."

"OK, go on then.  2.50 each way."

So I placed the bet giggling mad at her wasted money.  Sigh.  GG WP

FML indeed- just done a random punt today in Hills for the national as a quicky bet- £5 each on Brooklyn brownie and Himalayian Trail and £1 each way on Cerium at 300/1- logged into bet365 and seen Cerium finished 5th so thought I was in the money- but just seen Hills are only paying out to 4th place
