Title: Britains got talent
Post by: Indestructable on April 11, 2009, 11:18:12 PM
New series tonight and one guy appearing was Andy Demetriou. Any relation to Maria?  :dontask: :D

Andy Demetriou: 60 year old telephone engineer said “I am the old man’s Gene Kelly, I just hope the audience and the Judges approve.”

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI2x9OPR6U4

Or Demetrios Demetriou

"Stavros Flatley: One of the most entertaining acts of the night had to be father and son act ‘Stavros Flatley.’ The act consists of Demetrios Demetriou and his son Lagi.

The pair arrive on stage like two cheeky chappies and tell the judges that they are going to perform some authentic greek dancing as their audition piece. We expected to see some fiery plate smashing action, what we actually got was a chubby pair engaging in a strange Irish type jig routine which was nothing short of hilarious."

Flawless just an average dance group and they had one of those last year? Susan Boyle FTW  ;)

Flawless, an average dance group?
No way, there choreography was absolutley tight and this sets apart the average dance group to these. You would be hard pressed to find a professional group that good.
LOL at Stavros though :)

I watched this last night, Stavros and son I thought hilarious, Flawless were imo absolutely amazing and probably good enough to win outright.

But Susan Boyle! Good on the lady, I think people all round the country last night 'got smacked in the mouth' ready to ridicule even more after her act than when she just walked on stage, and then she sings like THAT!!! Probably wont win outright but I do believe she will get her 15 Minutes and very good luck to her.

Didn't actually watch this last night. Seen a few clips on Youtube.

Susan brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Sent a shiver down my spine!

Flawless was brilliant too as was the greek irish dancers. Could be quite a good comp this year!

Looking back at my post I didn't word it right, I didn't mean average in that they weren't good. It was more that I thought it was bit similar to other dance groups that I had seen. I thought these were better.  :D

wow

That is exceptionally high for 4 days. She's going to appear on Oprah, and none other than Demi Moore has endorsed her in her blog.
Crazy-haired unkissed wifey>talent show>international singing sensation FTW WTF.

The biggest surprise was the Demetriou dancer guy though, clearly 'the old man's Gene Kelly'

Young lad Shaid (sp?) closing the show was superb.

However it annoys me that they treat us as if we are stupid.

Simon stopping the lad whilst doing a version of Valerie (pretty well imo) and asking if he does anything else, lad comes out with an outstanding performance of a Michael Jackson number and Simon tries to look like the hero.

He auditoned, you knew what he could do Simon, you could have done away with the "aren't I so clever" pisch and got him to sing the Michael Jackson number from the start.

I don't think she is that special tbh. Great song sung adequately is more than enough to send tingles down your spine, which she did. Not even close to professional standard.

agree to an extent, although wouldn't say 'not even close' to professional standard.  It's a bloody difficult song to sing and no many people of a standard other than professional could carry it at all.  I don't think she's good enough to win though. What was really great about it was the way she stuck it in everyone's eye.  Good on her!

She doesn't need to win it, she is already bigger than the show, with an appearance on Oprah coming her way too.

True, you see a number of acts with this problem, but I guess that how you find the most talented, the acts which are able to develop on their first outing and come up with something original with the skillset they have.

I think she's gonna bomb whatever.

Her performance last time was all about confounding expectations. Can't really be repeated. It'll work the other way, everyone will expect her to be ATmazing and she's gonna be average and so resultantly look pisch.

If I'm wrong then crack the f*** on love, more power to you.

Well it's fairly obvious that Diversity and Susan Boyle are going through. Susan had a bad start but only 5 secs then it was more than enough for some of the other garbage.

The Latvian would make a fortune as a pole dancer but belly dancing will never win Britains got talent.

god yeah, her opening was so bad but the right result in the end. diversity were absolutely outstanding tonight

felt sorry for the little girl, what moron picked that song for her? it was like an average stage school performance, she'd never have got through to the final if that was her audition piece

The treatment of that little girl was an absolute disgrace.

Surely there should be a lower age limit of 14 or 16 for these dreadful programmes.

Thought Susan Boyle was distinctly average and she's obviously a total nutcase - the wiggling thing and the "this one's for you Peersy baby" was excruciating.  Simon Cowell's face when the camera panned to him was brilliant - he was not impressed (can see his money going down the drain!).  Also, when Ant & Dec asked her if all the attention she got after her original audition had put extra pressure on her, she replied "what pressure" in a very cocky way.  Also noticed that she's been to Cowell's dentist - top nashers veneered, but dentist forgot to do the bottom ones! lol  Sorry, don't like her at all.

Diversity on the other hand were absolutely brilliant.

It was between her and the dance group for the judges choice. They played the dramatic music and kept everyone in suspense as to who would win.. and then gave it to the troup. The little girl's top lip started trembling and she burst into tears. Noone was ther to cuddle or comfort her, some stage hand just ushered her off stage inconsolable.

Very disturbing to watch.

Agree that he should be in ahead of some of these nutters but his standard of drumming even for a 12 year old wasn't that good. The only reason he would've been in the semi final would be because he's young.

Title: Re: Britains got talent

And Amanda Holden bottles the big decision.

Thought the ventriliquist guy deserved a shot at the final.

Yeah, Shaun Smith can sing, but the type of stuff he sings, he could just audition for X-Factor.

Dance groups and singers for he final them.  Not much variety really ?

ventriloquist joins the growing list of people who did a great audition and then a distinctly average semi-final imo. had to put the singer through because of the dumbass ventriloquist's poor table selection. if he'd put a bit more thought into his act he would've walked into the final

Title: Re: Britains got talent

I'm sure that the reason the singing acts are not coming over as well as they did in the audition is that they are singing in the wrong keys for their range. I did read an article where the musical director of a similar show admitted he was asked not to rekey a song to meet the singers range just to make them look less impressive.

Just a thought...

Title: Re: Britains got talent

They'd want to pick different songs then because range has been waaaaaaaaaaay off so far.

The show is about money. Escala signed with syco get 3 judges standing applauding and performed a decent spot. Farrell Smith didn't sign with syco got 1 judge standing at the end of her spot despite a far superior performance.

A split vote tonight ? Never. Put MD in with Diversity and Flawless and they are obviously 3rd. If the opera singer was a solo she'd be through.

I didn't watch the 1st year but so far the semi finals are much worse this year than last year.

Perhaps, but the winner wasn't very good last year - I'm confident of a much better winner this year.

Backed Julian Smith to win the whole thing at 55, now something like 12.

How depressing.  After a nationwide search for talent, this is the best they could find?  I've seen two excellent dance acts in Diversity and Flawless.  The remainder have been average at best.

Agree when on their own on a huge stage, I couldn't put that pressure on my child. However, children in a group production would be quite different.

For me they were the most impressive but i wouldn't back them as i think top 3 is as high as they'd get.

Stavros are very popular (technically well behind Diversity) and Susan Boyle is hugeeven accounting for the slight backlash. If it wasn't for the backlash then 1.7 would be enormous.

Can't say I'm surprised if the reported outbursts last week have been accurately portrayed.  I really think the producers should have thought long and hard about her ability to cope with the pressure of the final before convincing her to perform, but making good telly comes first to them I suppose.

Hope she's better soon.

Agree - I have thought from the very first audition when she surprised everyone with her voice that she would not be able to cope if she won! The clue was there when Ant and Dec interviewed her after her semifinal win and I thought at the time, if she did win she will need a lot of support more than any other contestant.

It would be hard for anyone to be thrown into the limelight overnight to handle but the enormity of the amount she could earn could top her over the edge!

Lovely voice but not the temperament to cope with success! I wish her well and hoped she is being advised by someone who is not thinking of lining his own pocket!
