They can't do you any harm, but they make one helluva noise if they see a stranger, in effect they are a security alarm.

They are stll used at the Johnny Walkers Distillery as well (they are fed the grain after all the booze has been extracted). A few are killed for Xmas & AFAIK the staff draw lots for them.
