Title: Best course of action ? Post by: booder on April 19, 2009, 12:14:23 PM Online MTT. Pays 30,currently 6/24 3x 8 handed tables. Recently moved to table so no information on other players.
Blinds 300/600 100 Ante UTG (5450) folds HERO (32825) raise to 1400 with 8c 8d UTG+2 (35350) folds HIJACK (20052) folds CUTOFF (15570) folds BUTTON (15935) folds SMALL BLIND (36365) calls BIG BLIND (20427) folds FLOP Jc 4s 8h (POT 4200) SMALL BLIND check calls Hero's 2000 bet (POT now 8200) TURN Kc SMALL BLIND checks to HERO again What is the best way to extract the most value from our hand.Obviously SMALL BLIND has something, small/mid pair, overcards float. Do we bet the turn, possibly getting him to fold, or do we check it back, giving him a free card and the chance to make a play at the pot/or possibly stack us? Opinions appreciated please Title: Re: Best course of action ? Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on April 19, 2009, 12:16:03 PM bet 4,921

I was railing a friend in this comp last night. He actually bet 4k on the turn and the villian folded. I mentioned to him that i would probably have checked the turn.It is not very often that you hit big flops deep in tournaments and i would be trying to extract a few more chips from my opponent, hoping he hits a little something/attempts to steal.Am i alone on this line of thought? The answers seem to indicate a bet on the turn is the preferred play, just wondering if there is any merit to playing it the other way.Cheers for the replies. Title: Re: Best course of action ? Post by: Claw75 on April 19, 2009, 06:17:34 PM I bet the turn here too - probably around half the pot.

However, if villain is the lag you hope then betting out gives you the opportunity to stack him when he raises the overcard, whereas checking only gets him making a single stab. It's not often you hit big flops deep etc...so don't you want to extract the max value? If he hits a little something he prob wont play a big pot with you anyway. Also, if the guy's a nit he doesn't bet when you check but he does maybe call if you bet. So leading looks the better strat to me. Title: Re: Best course of action ? We're 55BBs deep here tho, so I think you've really got to bet this turn. Checking behind is never going to stack an opponent and you lose a fair wodge of EV imo. |
