Title: laptop running slow? Post by: Claw75 on April 22, 2009, 01:05:15 PM any advice? It's a brand new machine - only had it a couple of weeks and not much on here in the way of data. Last day or two been really laggy - internet explorer seizing up, keyboard very slow to react etc. Is there a likely culprit and/or a quick fix?
Title: Re: laptop running slow? Post by: outragous76 on April 22, 2009, 01:13:06 PM i have 2 new desktops running Vista - they run like dogs for 30 mins when i start them up and the internet is generally slow all round (not connection speed as my laptop is fine). I am pretty sure vista is trying to do some funky stuff in the background - and the more you fight it by firing up other apps the slower it gets.
I have basically stripped off everything Dell/Hp related (which there is a lot), i dont have the live desktop running to RHS of screen - and am still working on other ways of speeding up the other stuff. I also leave it for 10 mins to let it sort tiself out which seems to help - but is annoying if you are running late for something It could just be vista being slow. Anyone else? If not, virus scan, anti-spyware, yada yada yada. Installed any new stuff? Title: Re: laptop running slow? Post by: Claw75 on April 22, 2009, 01:14:50 PM cheers - I'll try getting rid of some of the pre-installed stuff I don't need.
Andrew - only stuff I've installed is poker software. Title: Re: laptop running slow? Post by: the sicilian on April 22, 2009, 01:18:17 PM That will do it lol.......

Use AVAST for your anti-virus, and you might benefit from an anti-spyware program.
Also, remove the stuff outrageous mentioned - that clock widget and the like. They just hog resources and you don't need them. Oh - and use Firefox rather than IE ldo. Title: Re: laptop running slow? So you've uninstalled mcafee if you're not using it? Title: Re: laptop running slow? Post by: Bainn on April 22, 2009, 01:50:06 PM Not surprised, Lappies only have little legs.
