Title: Line Check vs allinstevie in 8-game
Post by: NoflopsHomer on April 26, 2009, 03:27:17 AM
Playing the Mix 8-game on Stars. Went on a heater in the 2-7 and then Stud-8. I don't play much NL cash (Probably my weakest game in the 8-game!)

Why didn't you bet the turn?

Pot control mainly. It looks like a good flop to float tbh.

Pot control mainly.

Then why do you fold river?

I fire turn personally.

oop think you have to barrell here - especially if you think he's floating

check/call turn just inviting trouble imo

yeah the turn strikes me as a bit weak, that's where you lost the pot. Anything other than a 9 on the river is not likely to be ideal...make him pay to hit if you think he's floating.

help a little fishy out here flushy, can you explain turn bet more pls? I don't understand why it isn't turning a weak made hand into a bluff??? If he raises our turn bet we are doing what? If he calls we do what on river? What if river is  Kh or something instead?

if we think he's floating then why not check and give him chance to bluff?

as played up to turn either fold/give up ,  or check raise [looks stronger, may get him to fold a variety there]

was this worth posting?

This for me shows what it is like playing from out of position. It feels like you're always guessing. No decisions are ever easy oop and sometimes no matter what you do your options suck, especially against a good thinking aggressive player.
If you lead the flop, then check the turn, you invite a bet from our opponent, these can be a bluffs,semi-bluffs or made hands. If we lead again turn and they re-raise what do we do,if they call what is our plan on the river? so urgh wtf :)

If you check called the turn and check called the river you'll likely pay about the same as a check raise but you will get more money from the hands you beat - the hands that will fold to a c/r but might bet the river. You still lose to the big hands either way.

Fair question; main reason for me is that he might not bet...too many crap cards on the river. I like to make people pay a bit to hit.

I think it was worth posting because I think your suggested line is v v bad.

'If you lead the flop, then check the turn, you invite a bet from our opponent, these can be a bluffs,semi-bluffs or made hands.'

So why do you advocate sometimes reraising here?

So why do you advocate sometimes reraising here?

because the way NFH has played it up to now [the turn check] - allinstevie can call a variety on the flop, when NFH checks [shows weakness] this is gr8 opportunity to bluff or make a 2nd stab with a semi bluff or to think that T9 98 77 88 etc is still ahead..
The sizing of AIS turn bet does not make to much sense to me and it still favours imo bluffs/semi bluffs, check calling is ok sometimes as a defense against possible semi bluffs when we are oop..So if we feel that folding a marginal ish hand here is incorrect then to raise it up is an option as i'd want to charge him for his draw.

NFH had a feeling he was getting floated so going by that read a certain degree of positive expectation has got to be here isn't there?
