4. c 8. doesn't make sense? 10. d 11. a 15. d ----- They are probably just guesses, as I was never taught this sort of thing at school, and only learnt what a relative clause was when I was at uni studying a foreign language. (also, they're crap RSQ questions, please never be QM) Title: Re: Syntax Quiz Post by: booder on May 07, 2009, 07:46:31 PM always annoys me that i haven't got clue about any of this stuff. +1, so much for a Grammar school education. Ditto Title: Re: Syntax Quiz Post by: AndrewT on May 07, 2009, 08:20:31 PM Yikes.
I think the first two are both c ('who', being a relative pronoun, is the clue in the first one, and the second one is a verb phrase) but I have no idea about the rest, especially 8, as you copied it out wrong. Title: Re: Syntax Quiz Post by: gatso on May 07, 2009, 08:25:26 PM I agree with mr t and nitboshi on the first 2 being c and 8 making no sense. no idea on the later ones though
Title: Re: Syntax Quiz Post by: thetank on May 08, 2009, 03:44:26 AM Although it's a cut n paste job, I'm pretty sure 8 is nonsense. No idea, prob a typo from source.
Thanks for the help guys. Pretty sure I did enough to pass today. I don't understand why I love words but hate linguistics. Guess I just like to keep the science out of the art, it's like pulling teeth or analyzing comedy. Title: Re: Syntax Quiz Post by: Wardonkey on May 08, 2009, 03:49:46 AM It troubles me that someone qualified to set questions on the subject of syntax should make the questions so difficult to read.
